Dramedy Track (unintentionally) Inspired by Edvard Grieg

Post by michal » Sun Jan 17, 2021 3:25 pm

Hi friends,

I'd like to ask you for feedback on this dramedy track of mine. I haven't listened to the Peer Gynt Suite for about a year, yet still, somehow this piece seems to be inspired by its 4th movement. :D

Thanks!

DRAMEDY INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a great Music Library with International Distribution and lots of success in Film and TV placements.

This Library is looking for Instrumental Cues in the stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"Lurking Sloth" by Alexander Nakarada

"March of the Spoons" by Kevin MacLeod

"The Drunken Socialite" by Steve Barden

Please submit well-produced Dramedy Instrumental Cues with a comedic, quirky, sneaky, or mischievous vibe. Any one of those attributes, or a combo of them could work. You'd be wise to craft your submissions around a singular mood and motif, and create a sense of dynamics and forward momentum by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress. You can use a variety of instrumentation (pizzicato strings, glockenspiel, horns, etc.), but please avoid anything so busy that it could interfere with a scene's dialog. Remember, less is often more for these types of Cues!

All submissions should be about 2 minutes long (give or take), with non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings. Do NOT copy the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

It has got a fair amount of jazz vibes, actually. I may be wrong, but that is what I heard/felt, too.
Not much to say, honestly, your dramedy stuff is normally quite on point, Michal :)

The opening riff on the bass clarinet put a smile on my face right out of the gate.

Great stuff, Michal!
I think it is really on point, compositionally. But I had a hard time distinguishing the kit (snares? brushes?) from the melody at the very beginning. The levels were such that I couldn't tell if it was an instrument, or some aliasing noise from the clarinet (the clar was masking the drums). Overall, I think the drum kit could stand some presence to make it pop out. And/or let the melody have all the acoustic space for the first few measures. JM2C.

Thank you all for your nice words, it really means a lot to me!

Alan, you're right, I'm listening to it after a few days now and the drums could definitely use some more presence. I'll look into it. Thank you.
