Drone Cue

Post by wendylanders » Mon Mar 30, 2020 11:38 am

Hi Everybody!

I've managed to get confused by a drone cue. If it's atmospheric, how can it have a non-faded ending? I'm probably reading too much into this.

The listing number is TAXI # S200412ER

The reference material is:

True Detective S1 OST - The Tiara
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkNvCvydvCU&t=

Arctica & DeepDark - Heart of the Dead City
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMiaRZ1QN8o&t=

“I'm Sick” by Cliff Martinez
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg4evI2u7nQ

The due date on the cue is Sunday, April 12th, 2020. I've put my attempt in my working demos file. After the due date, I'll move it to my website.

The password is to listen to my cue--called Hiding behind the Doorr-- is password:

Thank you for your time in advance!

Best!

The reference tracks fade in, you may want to alter yours to match. Perhaps needs another element or two of layering - seems like just a piano/synth patch for much of the piece.

Hi Wendy, I like the 'dark' that you made.
I'm with Sam on the fade in, to match what I got from the ref tracks. Additionally, I think the piano notes could initially be darker/softer/more muffled so as not to be hogging all the attention. Maybe allow them to speak for the few "out" harmonies starting at :52 or so, then bringing them back down to match the beginning? I'm imagining a low-pass filter that slowly raises to that point and then goes back down. just an idea.

Thank you Sam and Alan!

I'm going to be working on it a bit more tomorrow. I'm not sure when I'll have a re-do uploaded.

Best!

I have a re-do uploaded called Walking through the Night against the Wind. I may have gone overboard with the wind.

It's still at https://wendylanders.com/working-demos The password is password

My favorite video tutorial I used while working on this is:

The black and white versus color in the video is excellent.

Thank you for listening. I appreciate your time! :)

Quick update--I did get another drone cue finished called Heart in your Throat at a Haunted House. It's in "working demos" with the others.

I'm getting some trailer braams to start working with. That should help with the fade-ins for the introduction.

I'm going to try to get a few more cues done before the due date. I'll let you know if any get forwarded.

Best! :)
