DYSTOPIAN CHRISTMAS CUE
Happy holidays!
It's been really fun/inspiring to listen to everyone's dystopian Christmas cues. Here's a rendition of "Coventry Carol" that I've been working on. I'd love to get a little feedback if I can. Thanks in advance for listening!

DARK, DYSTOPIAN INSTRUMENTAL CUE COVERS of PUBLIC DOMAIN CHRISTMAS MUSIC are needed by a Music Library that’s always hustling and landing placements for TAXI members in TV Shows, Film projects, and Movie Trailers!
This Library is on the hunt for dark Instrumental Cues that could fit in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:
"Jingle Bells" by Myuu
"Silent Night" by Peter Gundry
"Carol of the Bells" by Lucas King
Although one reference has lyrical vocals, please submit Instrumental only tracks. Some non-lyrical choral vocals are okay – think ahs, oohs, etc.
Please submit well-composed Instrumental Cue Covers of Public Domain Christmas Music that have a gritty, dystopian sound and vibe. Craft your Cues with eerie arrangements that create a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress. Orchestral or Orchestral Hybrid instrumentation with Christmas-y accents like glockenspiel, jingle bells, tubular bells, etc. would suit your submissions best. Please be sure your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and modern. Now is the time to bring out those super dark versions of holiday music that could send shivers down the listeners' spines!
IMPORTANT: Please double check to make sure the Songs you submit are truly Public Domain! In case you’re unsure if they are, here’s a link that will help:
Public Domain Christmas Songs
All submissions should be about 60 to 90 seconds long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

I love it, Brent! Nicely done! The Coventry Carol is fairly dystopian all on its own, but you've carried it to the next level. Bravo!
I agree, it's so much fun seeing what everyone is doing with this listing! I hope we ALL get forwards and get picked up by the library!
Cheers,
Merry

Very impressive work, well done! My only suggestion would be to reconsider the "whoosh" at about 1:16. Good luck with the submission, Doug

I agree with the last poster about the "whoosh" near the end. Doesn't seem to fit. But I like the over-the-top choir and tolling bells.

Hi!
Maybe some timpani drums, like a crescendo roll? instead of that last 'woosh'

Re: DYSTOPIAN CHRISTMAS CUE
Hey Brent, my technical analysis of the first part of this track is it's got a case of "reverb confusion", where the bells / piano sound like they're coming from down the street, but the guitar sounds like it's being played right next to me in a small cozy little room. See if you can make all the instruments sound like they're coming from the same space.
From a sonic perspective, I'd ditch those choir voices and see if you could replace them with something else. As they are, they've got "keyboard choir" written all over them. Think you could find a different sound? Maybe French horn or low trombones, if you wanna stick with orchestral sounds. Or a nice creepy synth stack if you've got some good patches to choose from. Heck, even a haunting solo female voice would work nice. Worst case, try to bolster the choir with your own voice to give it a more real sound.

Re: DYSTOPIAN CHRISTMAS CUE
Thanks Doug! That means a lot! I'm definitely going to replace the "whoosh." It was really just a placeholder for a different kind of riser. Thanks again!DouglasKnight wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 5:56 pmVery impressive work, well done! My only suggestion would be to reconsider the "whoosh" at about 1:16. Good luck with the submission, Doug
