Dystopian Xmas Cue (Remake)

DARK, DYSTOPIAN INSTRUMENTAL CUE COVERS of PUBLIC DOMAIN CHRISTMAS MUSIC are needed by a Music Library that’s always hustling and landing placements for TAXI members in TV Shows, Film projects, and Movie Trailers!

This Library is on the hunt for dark Instrumental Cues that could fit in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"Jingle Bells" by Myuu

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4h_6aRAxcwU

"Silent Night" by Peter Gundry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DXozZpLPlQ

"Carol of the Bells" by Lucas King

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URugFjhXHrs

Although one reference has lyrical vocals, please submit Instrumental only tracks. Some non-lyrical choral vocals are okay – think ahs, oohs, etc.

Please submit well-composed Instrumental Cue Covers of Public Domain Christmas Music that have a gritty, dystopian sound and vibe. Craft your Cues with eerie arrangements that create a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress. Orchestral or Orchestral Hybrid instrumentation with Christmas-y accents like glockenspiel, jingle bells, tubular bells, etc. would suit your submissions best. Please be sure your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and modern. Now is the time to bring out those super dark versions of holiday music that could send shivers down the listeners' spines!

IMPORTANT: Please double check to make sure the Songs you submit are truly Public Domain! In case you’re unsure if they are, here’s a link that will help:

Public Domain Christmas Songs

All submissions should be about 60 to 90 seconds long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 Deal. This Music Licensing Company splits sync fees 50/50 with you. You must own or control your Master. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. Time permitting, someone from the Library may screen some or all of the submissions. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Friday, December 3rd, 2021. TAXI # S211203PD

Whoa, John! Definitely dark & dystopian! Nicely done! I couldn't intuit what was coming next, and it was unsettling all the way through! Sounds like a forward to me! :)

Cheers,
Merry

I hear 4 different cues with unnatural gaps between them, with different sounds (some dated), odd endings, and the additional hits don't fit. I think your first section is really good though, so my suggestion would be to take that section to completion without the rest. Hope that helps.

Hey John, I agree with Telefunkin. Sounds to me like this is a collage of four different pieces. For my money, the first idea is the strongest (but I'd slather that bell tree in reverb & delay, and duck the volume considerably.... or just take it out altogether). If you could extend that first section to the 1:00-1:30 mark, I think you'd have a winner. But as it is, its got a case of multiple personalities!

Matt,

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I value your input considerably. I've attached a remake of what you listened to for any comments you would like to make, but what I really would like is your perspective on determining which parts of the entire melody we should be assigning to each of the 3 "acts?" In your most recent posting you use the entire melody straight through with, it seemed to me anyway, only one obvious edit point. Do most libraries look for entire melodies in tact, or fragments with mini-developments within each of the acts, or what, typically.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Hey John

I know you want Matt's input, not mine, but it seems to me that you did not do what Telefunkin and Matt advised you to do, because I still hear three different cues.
Also, why would you want a 3-part structure in a cue? This is not supposed to be a trailer, I presume.
I think Matt is spot on with taking the first 3rd, expanding it, but trench the bells in reverb and put them way in the background.

Tom
Thanks for the comments. I AM working on an additional remake that will, I hope, be more in line with what Matt suggested. I have a question for you, however regarding t Cue structure. In general what is your understanding of the form, itself. EG. 3 Acts, or something else?

Thanks again,

John
