Electronic Pop Cue

Post by JDM » Thu Jun 20, 2019 3:17 pm

Is it "current sounding" enough?

https://soundcloud.com/john-dale-music/ ... 019-303-pm

CURRENT- SOUNDING ELECTRONIC POP INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a well-connected and extremely busy Music Licensing Company for placements in Film, TV, and Commercials.

They’re looking for fresh, Mid-To-Up-Tempo Instrumental Cues that could fit in the stylistic wheelhouse of the following references:

“Glitch” by Martin Garrix & Julian Jordan

“Happy Now” by Kygo ft. Sandro Cavazza

“Feel About You” by Silk City ft. Diplo, Mark Ronson, Mapei

Although the references have vocals, this request is for Instrumental Cues only!

Give them polished Electronic Pop Instrumental Cues that are fresh and current-sounding, with contemporary instrumentation and

catchy melodies in the general ballpark of the references above. Your productions should have great-sounding synths and plenty of “ear candy.”

Be sure to stick with a central melodic motif and create some dynamics, interest, and forward momentum by adding and subtracting layers of instrumentation as your Cues progress.

Your submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length. Non-Faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best for this pitch. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 deal. You’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Please do not send material for this pitch that is signed to any other libraries or catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis – Short critiques only. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Monday, July 8th, 2019. TAXI #Y190708EP

Hi John - sorry, but no.

Many of the Electronic Pop - slash - EDM - slash - Indie Electronic etc listings depend on very specific samples and sounds that are lacking in your composition. Or, to hear it another way, your composition contains many samples and sounds that are lacking in the reference tracks. If you listen to the four tracks together you should be able to spot the differences.

Best of luck!

Jay :)
see you at the top!

Thanks, Jay. BTW, what's your understanding of what is meant when listings ALWAYS specific to NOT "copy the references in any way, shape or form?"

Hey John, it's a good attempt and hopefully you learned a thing or two while making this, but..... it's not current electronic pop. The mix just isn't on par with what the reference tracks sound like, and the sounds you've chosen (such as the high brass stabs) are from another era entirely (like, the mid 80's).

Keep working though. Don't give up. Try your best to emulate the sonics of the reference tracks as best as you can.... find those same snares, hi hats, claps, kicks, etc.... and keep moving dials around until your mix sounds like the refs.
