Expert Advice appreciated
I need some advice from those who have some experience with placements made from Libraries they're in...If a composer has 1000 songs, is it better for him/her to allocate 200 songs in 5 well-established Libraries or 1000 in 1 well-established Library?Better in terms of maximizing chances of getting more placements...Thanks in advance...-Kel

My personal opinion is to diversify. It's more than just the library's reputation. It's also about your personal relationship with them. It's also about how much demand their clients have for tracks that sound like yours. So spread it out in the beginning and see who's getting you lots of placements. If it turns out one company is doing 90 % of your placements, and then you start to develop a good relationship with a couple key people there, then they can become your go-to.

I would definitely agree with Chris.Here is an additional point to consider:Although most libraries strive to have a well balanced roster of clients, it is not unusual for them to be more successful in one area than in others. One company might be very connected in scripted tv, another might do particularly well in reality tv, or news, or sports...or maybe in major motion pictures. Another might have stellar distribution overseas and get your music into local productions in Europe, Australia and Asia (actually I guess for you WE are the ones "overseas" ). All of the above will contribute a great deal to your diversification.If there is another writer or actor strike in the future and scripted tv/movie production comes to a grinding halt, you would be very glad not to have all your 1000 songs in a company that specializes in that specific area. Similarly, if the reality tv fad fades, you wouldn't want most of your eggs in that basket.Of course the libraries themselves will adapt to changing business conditions as best they can, but the recent WGA strike had many companies scrambling...Furthermore, while most of us are most familiar with production music use in film and tv, there's a huge market out there for library music that's not connected to "Hollywood", and some companies specialize in suppling that market. So getting in on that increases your diversification even further.So I think getting into a number of well connected libraries will maximize your profits, and even moreso, minimize your risks and provide you with better financial security.Now you really have to get cracking on writing those 1000 songs though... matto
