PERCUSSION-BASED INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an International Music Library with lots of great placements in Film and TV.

They’re looking for rhythmic, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that could fit in the general stylistic ballpark of the references below:

ADT Commercial

Drums & Percussion Background Music

Please submit driving, impactful Percussive Instrumentals that are rhythmically engaging from start to finish. Your submissions can include everything from Stomps, Claps, and Kicks to Slaps, Snaps, and Bangs. For this request, feel free to push the boundaries a bit in your production – in other words, try not to rely solely upon pre-made loops, and get creative with your programming!

TAXI Tip: KEEP IT SIMPLE!! We've noticed that the vast amount of Instrumentals like this that gets USED are the simplest! Your submissions do not have to be super complex or complicated, but they should make people want to move when they hear them. Keep them simple, but powerful! Having a bit of a developmental arc is a good idea!

Your submissions should be 2 minutes in length (give or take). Non-faded, Buttoned/Stinger endings will work best. Please do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, tone, and vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal, so please be sure the Instrumentals you pitch for this opportunity are NOT already signed with other Companies or Catalogs. Any sync fees will be split 50/50 with the Company. You'll get 100% of the Writer's share, and the Publisher will get 100% of the Publisher's share. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Instrumentals as you'd like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis – No full critiques. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Tuesday, October 1st, 2019. hey Ron I think you're in the ballpark.

This kind of listing comes and goes fairly regularly, one thing I have noticed from tracks that get forwarded, they all have more of a BOOMy kind of sound than you track does.

If there's anything you can do in regards to mixing and mastering to make it sound a little more BOOMy and a little less CLINKy I think you've got a forward on your hands.

Hope that helps!

Jay :)

Hey Ron,

You could retool this one and make it a banging track.

Here's a couple of things that might help you in conceptualizing your approach:

1) virtual drums are usually sampled at various velocities corresponding to how hard the drums are hit. The loudest and BRIGHTEST sounds come from hitting the drum really hard and are up at velocities like 127 in your MIDI piano roll. So if you want FAT sounds, use much lower velocities. You can still get brightness using the next point.

2) some composers advocate separating your drums into different registers. Like a section of drums are big huge resonant hits low in pitch and used more sparsely. Then the next section up would be higher in pitch, less resonant, and used for faster passages. Then higher pitched drums. Then all the "clacks" and "tiki-takas" and stuff that is high pitched and really cutting - that is used for the climax of the cue where everything is really moving.

3) mix it like you would hear it in a concert hall - big huge hits, big volume, compressed and reversed vs. High fast rhythms, a little less volume and less steamrolled with compression so that it doesn't beat into your ears like an ice pick.

Good luck.

P.s. Merlin's Sister is a cool track.

Andy and Tom Thanks for the cool ideas. I am a day late for submitting the track, but I know they come around quite often ; needing these types of tracks . So I am going to re work this one with your ideas.

Thanks so much,

Ron
