Feedback for ANTHEMIC MODERN ROCK INSTRUMENTALS

Post by BradGray » Thu Jan 21, 2021 5:47 am

Hey Passengers,

I created a Modern Rock Anthemic Instrumental for the below listing. My track is here: One for the Team

The song is the first pass at the mix.

A few questions:

1) Is it too long?
2) Am I on point with the modern sound, and the references?
3) Too repetitive?

Thanks!
Brad

ANTHEMIC MODERN ROCK INSTRUMENTALS by CANADIAN COMPOSERS are needed by a top-tier Music Library for Sports-related placements on a variety of Canadian TV Shows.

They’re searching for Instrumentals in the general stylistic ballpark of the following references:

"Let's Go" by Zayde Wølf Let's Go
"Play with Fire" by WAR*HALL Play With Fire
"Higher" by The Score Higher

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.

NOTE: This company is looking for material that comes from composers that are Canadian for Canadian projects. If you are not Canadian, please do not submit for this opportunity.

Please submit well-produced, anthemic Rock Instrumentals that could amp up the energy in Sports-related TV shows. Your submission should have bombastic rhythms, great guitar parts, and catchy hooks. Typical Rock-band instrumentation will probably suit your submissions best, but a little bit of modern ear-candy couldn't hurt! If you're using any virtual instruments to replace organic ones, be sure that they don't sound stiff, synthetic, or dated.

Well that was embarrassing. Corrected, and should work now.

Thanks Rick,

I haven't had a forward yet, so I still feel a bit un-qualified to give feedback. That being said, here goes...

1) Is it too long? Length is good.

2) Am I on point with the modern sound, and the references? Sounds modern to me.

3) Too repetitive? It did feel repetitive in a few spots. There are places where the melody and bass line were the same for 2 or 3 bars in a row. If one or the other is altered even by one note, it felt less repetitive. In particular, at the 8s mark and at the end.

I hope that helps.

Brad, love, absolutely love starting at 14 seconds. Also I love the distorted bass section. Personal taste, I would like to hear more vibrato in your guitar. However, I am a newbie, and I'm not sure what Anthemic style is. My comments are personal taste.

Thanks Rick.

I've have several submissions returned because of this previously, and usually when I'm hitting the 2min mark, I start repeating too much. I still have a number of days, so will look at doing some editing or enhancing. I'll try some chopping first. =)

I did reply to your PM, but it looks like it's stuck in outbox. I do have a soundcloud account, I use from time to time for postings. However, I find I leave 1/2 finished pieces up there so I'm trying to post less in SC....as I forget about it eventually. =)

What if you played your melodic ideas backwards at the end?

Without it being specified in the listing, around the 'standard' 2-minute length is probably a good, safe call.
It's rare that the full-length would get used anyway.

The track sounds a bit like what you might hear in James Bond/espionage scene as underscore - not too busy to interrupt dialog;
though it seems it might work best in a short, non-speaking bit.
I'd guess a screener might return it, if they think there's not enough subtle changes and sections.
Tough call - but a good track, to these old-guy ears.
