Hi! New member here, so I hope I'm posting correctly.
I just submitted the song below for consideration for an instrumental listing and would love to see what the rest of the community thinks about it, too. (The listing called for "epic hybrid trailer-style instrumentals").
Listing: https://www.taxi.com/listings/#listing_genre_12
Reference provided (in case the listing goes down): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x9agXApLOts

What do you guys think?

Your link to the LIsting doesn't work for me, it's best to copy & paste the actual listing itself into your post.
Without being quite sure what the eact brief requirements are , and having some of this style of track in Libraries and on placements I would say the things that stand out to me are :-
1. It's far too repetitive..you repeat the same 1 bar 4 note phrase ad nasuem for a full minute from 24s to 1:24 ..I kept thinking the melody would develop but it never did so it's super boring. Try writing a 4 bar melody so we feel like we are building toward something. I think you do this more in the 2d half.
2. I'm not a fan of the lead souds you've used they sound a bit dated to me - the arp synth that coes in at 16s and the guitar type sound that plays the main melody. Maybe go and listen to some other hybrid tracks and see what they use.
3. There are some lofi 8bit type sounding elements which I don't think work very well, they seem to trivialise the rest of the track and make it a bit cheesy sounding.
4. Other than that I think the structure , drums , general build etc works quite well
Mark

Re: Feedback for Epic Hybrid Trailer-Style Instrumental
Ok thanks for listening and providing such detailed feedback!
1 - The listing called for something “that builds” and uses “one melody” so I wasn’t sure if they wanted something short and sweet like the one I used or something that took a little longer to develop. I didn’t know if the visuals that’d be used - an ad for a video game or whatever - would drive the story or if the music should take the lead
2 - Re: sound selection I tried to stay in the vein of the references they provided but I’ll listen to more cues in this style. I’ve heard stuff like this before but this was my very first time taking a crack at it myself!
Thank you for the feedback!
