Feedback on Soul Christmas Instro please

Post by DBarnett » Thu Nov 25, 2021 9:42 am

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Do you think it sounds like a 60s/70's Soul piece?

Does it have a Christmas vibe?

How is mix? Reverb? Delay?

Is it too repetitive?

This was written by me, and Bob Gardner and Paul Wainwright. All online and we are all Taxi members
Peter Rahill supplied the live drums through Air Gigs, thank you Peter

Here is the listing link
https://www.taxi.com/listings/favorite# ... e%20needed OR
ORIGINAL CHRISTMAS SOUL INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a U.K. Music Licensing Company with GREAT Worldwide Distribution and lots of awesome placements in Film and TV!

This Company is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references:

"Let's Get It Together This Christmas" by The Harvey Averne Band

"What Christmas Means to Me" by Cee Lo Green

"Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday" by William Bell

Although the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request.

Please submit well-produced Soul Instrumentals that could get listeners in the holiday spirit! Your submissions should have memorable motifs, great rhythms, and classic Soul instrumentation featuring Christmas-y accents like jingle bells, tubular bells, etc. Your pieces can have a retro, old-school Soul feel to them, but be sure that your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and sound fresh – nothing lo-fi will work for this request.

Thank you!

It's got a lively-yet-laid-back-&-fun-peaceful vibe to these old-guy ears.
Just to be clear (in case anyone reading the credits thinks I'm a WFH drummer 'employee' with airgigs.com - I am not)...
I did not play the drums for this track.
My shout-out would be to TAXI for getting airgigs involved with the Road Rally.
Good luck with your pitch, Dave & Co.
(do I hear a song/lyrics wanting to jump on that tune...?!) :? 8-) :)
Your mileage may vary.

Cool track! My suggestions would be to dial back the reverb overall and bring up the volume on the main guitar in the first section. Then, consider replacing the main guitar with a different instrument (Sax?) in the second section to provide some variation. Nice work on this, and good luck! DK

Hi Dave,
Nice track. The lead guitar melody that comes in around 22 sec is a little buried in the mix , I can hear the comp guitar overtaking the track.

Thats's all for now.

Good luck

Here is the remix, please let me know what I may need to look at next
I'm not sure that this has or that the elusive developmental arc is needed for this pitch?
Thanks for your time :D

really nice job on this. Gits, bass and horns sound great. It's challenging to establish 'this is a Christmas song', in a non traditional original instrumental. To that end I wouldn't be afraid to keep the sleigh bells going throughout and or introduce the chime earlier (maybe sparsely in the first B section).

Best of luck on this one,
Erich

Love this song! It created an ear worm that stuck all week. Loved doing the horn section and look forward to collaborating with you and other Taxi members again.
