Feedback on this Bossa-Nova

Post by michal » Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:37 am

Hi friends,

I'd love to hear your opinions on this bossa-nova track that I made for the following listing.

https://soundcloud.com/michalsinka/curi ... FPZf1DQiYD

Thank you! :)

EDIT: Version 2 with a piano lead: https://soundcloud.com/michalsinka/curi ... 4TxmX4jFG6

------------

Lots of ORIGINAL TRADITIONAL LATIN DANCE INSTRUMENTALS (in a wide range of styles) are needed by a successful Music Library that gets tons of placements in TV Shows, Films, and Movie Trailers.

NOTE: They’re open to hearing a range of Traditional Latin Dance styles including (but NOT limited to): Tango, Samba, Mambo/Guajira, Flamenco, Bossa Nova, Merengue, Salsa, Bachata, etc., etc., etc.

Please send them Instrumentals that could fit in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the following references:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL3Q1uW ... Getz-Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfN9Kv5 ... 3%A9-Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0F_ygcT ... %ADa-Topic

https://youtu.be/MUspajbLnoc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGtaViS ... rgas-Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xT7maX ... Rico-Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPLUfxE ... gura-Topic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jStTjOd ... iola-Topic

Although some of the references have vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this pitch.

Please submit top-notch, original Latin Dance Instrumentals that have a Traditional sound and style. Whichever genre you decide to submit, your submissions should have authentic-sounding rhythms, instrumentation, and melodies. If your pieces get people up on their feet and dancing the night away, you might be onto something!

TAXI Tip: Authentic performances and instrumentation are the key to nailing this request! We don’t recommend using virtual instruments for this pitch unless you are extremely masterful and your virtual instruments sound indistinguishable from the real thing.

All submissions should be at least 2 minutes in length and no longer than 4 minutes, give or take. Solid edit points and buttoned/stinger endings are encouraged. Please do not copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Hey Michal,

Your track sounds great!

Listening to the references and then yours, it seems like a great fit. The production is really good, clear and you capture the vibe perfectly.

Cheers,
Brad

Nice track Michal! I didn't really notice any major issues that need addressing. As someone who grew up in Brazil & listens to a ton of Brazilian music, you would get a forward from me on this one.

Cameloide, this means a lot, thank you! On a completely unrelated note, may I ask you for recommendations on contemporary Brazilian music that you like? I'd like to listen to it more. :)

Well, I can't say that I'm really too up to date on what's contemporary right now. But some of the more recent artists I like are Cibelle, Ceu and Lenine.

You can't go wrong with the classics from the previous generation though, a lot of them are still make cutting edge stuff too...Gilberto Gil, Caetano Velose, Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento, Djavan, and many more.

Hi Michael,
I just finished mine too, it sounds really nice the only thing and it is just a suggestion is maybe from a section say from solo introduce another percussion instrument, like a shaker, triangle...e.t.c ..I love the request that ask for a performance and one can actually have a solo in there...anyway good luck.

Thanks so much, Cameloide, I'll check them all out.

Good point, Andre, thank you. I'm just listening to your bossa-nova (assuming it's the one at the top of your Taxi site) and I love it. Really digging the guitar sound. Good luck to you, too.

I think the track is excellent, except for the Rhodes lead. It is pretty forward in the mix, and I didn't hear Rhodes in any of the references. Replace that with an acoustic piano and I think you've got a winner!

Hey, I love the track sounds authentic to the Latin vibe, and I love the Gibson sound which I believe it might be?
Super good.
