Hi friends!
Would love to hear any and all constructive feedback on this tune for the listing below: https://www.taxi.com/members/Gjdf7sdFR5 ... d-highway
Many Thanks,
Doug

AMERICANA ROCK INSTRUMENTALS and/or INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a Top-Notch British Music Licensing Company with lots of great placements in Film and TV.
This Company is searching for Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals (or Cues) that could found on a playlist with the following references we got directly from them:
"Traveling North" by Dennis Godshalk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvjsIvRc1Sg
"Guitar Town" by Steve Earle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AINUPFbFpqg
"So Far So Good" by Dennis Godshalk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDwlBwOeU-E
"Can't Let Go" by Lucinda Williams https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75mWmB5HDxE
Although some of the references have Vocals, please submit Instrumentals only for this request.
Please submit well-produced Americana Rock Instrumentals (or Cues) with engaging motifs, solid grooves, polished production, and solid arrangements that could work well for various TV and Film placements. Instrumentation in the general style of the references will suit your submissions best – think acoustic guitars, drums, etc. Organic, live-recorded performances will likely work best for this request, but if you plan to use any virtual sounds or instruments, please be sure they are high-quality and indistinguishable from the real thing. Nothing dated or overly MIDI-driven will work for this request. We recommend crafting your pieces around a singular motif and mood, and creating a sense of forward momentum and dynamics by layering instrumentation in and out as they progress.
Your submissions should be roughly 90 Seconds long for Cues, and about 2 to 4 minutes long for Instrumentals, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced music in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, texture, tone, and overall vibe. Do not submit any material with unauthorized samples of other artists’ Songs, sounds, or any other form of media. Broadcast Quality is needed.

While it's a great-sounding track, I can't help but wonder if a Screener or Supe looking at the 'stick of butter' WAVE form might just skip to the next one,
without ever hitting the PLAY button.
Hopefully, it would get played - and not solely assessed by the butter.

Definitely a cool track, nice vibe. When I compare it directly with the Dennis Godshak ones, it holds up really well as quite comparable. Seems quite forwardable to me... but I'm no expert, so don't take me too seriously. But well done!

Interesting question, not sure how much weight they will give to the actual wave form itself prior to giving it a listen. I would be interested to hear if anyone his had songs returned because of it.
I've remastered at a lower volume -- maybe that will help my chances!
Thanks again,
Doug

Sounds spot on to me Douglas, so great job!
[Might be worth a check at about 1:19 for a click on the right side - is it perc or is it electrical?]
Good luck for a forward.

Hey Jonathan! Very much appreciate you listening and providing feedback -- thank you! It was challenging since the references were very different, so I tried to steer down the middle. I hope you're right about the forward, I've had a lot of returns lately : )
All the best,
Doug

Thanks so much for your time and feedback! I'll check out that sound at 1:19 -- it may be the shaker, but will double-check -- thanks for the heads up.Telefunkin wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 7:21 amSounds spot on to me Douglas, so great job!

That's a really good point about sometimes how the references vary significantly, sometimes that really throws me off. Especially when they also add "can be found on a playlist with"
Do you mind mentioning what your most common reason for returns have been, if there is one?

Hey Jonathan, The screeners are great and have been giving me lots of positive feedback lately, but I've been just missing the mark on closely emulating the references. There's definitely a high bar, which I respect, and it's motivating me to improve. That's why I really appreciate any advance feedback I receive here in the forum prior to submitting.
Have a good one...
