Feedback requested on Holiday submission

Post by BuzzReed » Mon Sep 14, 2020 2:01 pm

I'm looking for feedback on this cue:

The Holidays Are Near

Thanks for your time!
_________________________________

Several ORIGINAL, MINIMALISTIC CHRISTMAS INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a successful International Music Licensing Company with global distribution through a huge music conglomerate!

They’re looking for quite a few ORIGINAL Instrumental Cues (no covers, please) in the general stylistic ballpark of (but not limited to) these references:

"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" by Chad Lawson Trio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32vBn9yaHTQ

"At the Nativity/Bethlehem's Stall" by Robin Petrie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMyODM7sE5U

"O Come All Ye Faithful" by John Tesh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smL6UEnqCDw

Please submit well-crafted Christmas Instrumental Cues that evoke the spirit of the Holiday season in a simple, understated way. You could incorporate subtle Christmas-y accents like a glockenspiel or jingle bells to give your submissions some additional Christmas cheer, but definitely don't overdo them. Remember, minimalistic pieces are the order of the day!

Quoting the Music Library: “We are looking for Cues that are sparse and somewhat simple. Only 4 to 6 instruments maximum. Keep them simple and try to introduce some edit points along the tracks. Very very high bar, in terms of realism. Meaning, if any of the instruments sound too 'MIDI' then the Cues should be rejected.”

Your submissions need to be around 2 minutes long (nothing that runs 3 or 4 minutes, please) with Non-Faded, Buttoned endings. Do NOT copy the referenced examples in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020. TAXI # S200923XM

Hey Buzz,
Nice playing :D but the piano is a bit dominant throughout, my experience is that they like layers, different instruments driving the melody
Maybe going to a glockenspiel or other traditional Christmas instrumentation in the middle and coming back to a softer piano?
It's close to Holiday music just not quite there yet IMO
Good luck!

I like the main piano drive, but both the tingle and the flutey thing are below par. They sound stiff and their melodies aren't adding much to the song. The tingle is too loud in the mix as well. The song could also use some low-end, like a bass line or lower piano hand.
