First Forward--And I'd like to thank so many people!
My First Forward!
This is a big milestone for me, so I need to take a moment to thank several people.
It's been 13 years since I first bought a copy of Sonar and tried recording my vocals on my laptop. I couldn't get anywhere, so I started taking classes at my local junior college in recording engineering nine years ago. A big thanks to my instructors there. I learned how to use Pro-Tools, audio samples, and mic instruments. The experience gave me the opportunity to try out many different microphones and several pre-amps. They also told me about Taxi. I was still murky on the pre-amps and some of the editing tools when I left, but that's just because it took me longer to learn audio-engineering than the rest of the class.
I joined Taxi almost five years ago now. A big thanks to the Taxi family for your help over the past several years, especially Mojo and Ronan--both of whom gave sound advice during critical times of distress. While I was making my audiobooks, I blew out a condenser mic and needed to know if I could use a Shure SM-57 and a tube pre-amp instead and call it good. On the forums, Mojo suggested the tube pre-amp/compressor/EQ that I currently use. I'd also like to thank Ronan, who advised using a Shure SM-7B as well as a Cloudlift at a Road Rally a couple of years back, when I explained my fear of blowing out condenser mics to him during a 15 minute mentoring session.
I'd also like to thanks the screeners who gave me custom critiques while I've been a Taxi member. I did my best to use all of their advice.
If I had not gotten this instruction and advice, I would not have been able to continue in recording engineering.
The forwarded piece is new age meditation music entitled Drinking hot cocoa while watching the overcast sky. It's available on my website.
Once I can get out and about more, I'll get a bottle of champagne and send the cork in to Taxi headquarters with the date of my first forward on it.
I continue to look forward to working with all of you in the years to come.
Thank you again!

Go your own way! Out of necessity, drive, gumption, whatever.. don't let anyone tell you you can't!
It's not what goes into your music that's important, it's what comes out the speakers
