Forward > "AMBIENT to UNSETTLING" INSTRUMENTAL CUES

Post by steveprobst » Thu Jun 17, 2021 3:53 pm

To me, "ambient" means less-organic sounding than what I've got here, but really liked what I had so just went with it.

"AMBIENT to UNSETTLING" INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed by a hard-working Music Library that’s always landing placements in TV Shows, Film projects, and Movie Trailers!

NOTE: We’re not providing any references for this request, as we think they might be more limiting than helpful. Please be sure to read this Listing very carefully!

Quoting the Library: "We're looking for Cues that start in an ambient state, feeling like you're floating without a care in the world, loved, ethereal and then something unsettling starts to get added. Something that makes your stomach feel uneasy, that makes you feel not quite right. Like you've been in this euphoria and then your inner voice is telling you something is very wrong."

Please submit top-notch Instrumental Cues that start out with an ethereal, ambient mood and transition into an unsettling mood as they progress. We think Orchestral or Electronic instrumentation (or a hybrid of both) will suit your submissions best. Please be sure that your production and any virtual instruments or samples you use are high-quality and modern.

TAXI Tip: Although the mood of your pieces changes, they should still remain cohesive. They shouldn't feel like two different Cues stitched together. We think starting off with a tranquil, almost drone-like mood at the beginning of your Cues and then introducing some dissonant tones and maybe some unsettling, pulsating rhythmic elements could be a good approach to take – feel free to get creative!

Submissions should be about 90 seconds long, give or take. Non-faded, buttoned/stinger endings will work best.

TAXI Tip 2: There's no exact request for timings as to how long each mood should last, but given that they've asked for Cues that are about 90 seconds long, you might want to try sort of a three-stage approach - about 30 seconds of "all is good in the world," followed by about 30 seconds of "here's a hint that the $#!+ might hit the fan soon," followed by about 30 seconds of building dissonant, unsettling, pulsating, "Oh yeah, this is going to get bad." They didn't ask for a big, bombastic, climax, so don't take it all the way there. Just leave listeners with the feeling that something bad is going to happen, and we're pretty sure the editors of (presumably Trailers) will add the big stabs, Taiko drum hits, and whatever bombastic stuff they need for the climax.

Broadcast Quality is needed.

This Library offers a NON-EXCLUSIVE, 50/50 Deal. You’ll get 50% of any sync fees and 100% of the Writer’s share. The Publisher will get 50% of sync fees and 100% of the Publisher’s Share. You’ll keep 100% of the original copyright and master recording. You must own or control the Master and Copyright to submit to this pitch. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. Time permitting, someone from the Music Library may screen some or all of the submissions. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Sunday, May 16th, 2021. TAXI Dispatch # D210516AM

I think your track is "there". I too think of "ambient" differently, however an orchestra can totally be ambient, strings definitely are, when you have them playing in a textural fashion

I like the sound of this! For me, the change of mood has just the right amount of subtlety.

Cheers

Thanks, Marco. To add a bit of un-organic ambience to it since I was going so orchestral, I started with an Albion Tundra synth pad under the strings.
I totally understand if the tracks's not right for the library, but nice to get a forward.

Thanks, Michael. It was definitely a good learning experience to write as is most of the stuff I'm doing lately.

A good idea, that. And who knows, the library might still think your effort is usable :)
