Good report, Tom.
All the best to you in your hobbyist pursuits.
I'm kinda in the same B.O.A.T. (doing music for fun).
If a Road Rally happens to happen again up in L.A,
and we're both there - hopefully I'll be able to afford to have a beer with you.
Cheers,
Peter

Hobbies like ours are fun. Lose money on every song but make it up in volume.  Or think of your music as an internet startup company. The more you lose, the more valuable you are and the sooner you can go IPO!

Good luck!

Tom - Congrats on acheiving your goals. Personally I think it's about the winning and not the taking part ...but YMMV ;)

The big winner here of course is Taxi as like many other services they get paid whether you end up making full time income, do it as a hobby and make a loss, or land someplace inbetween.

The worst aspect of Sync is it's hard to turn a profit even after a bunch of stuff gets placed.

Thanks for posting this. This will likely be my story too (if I'm lucky!).

Back in the 90s, I remember some nerd in the U.S. who tried to sell books online. In Germany, this seemed 100% nuts, because regulated book prices meant there was zero profit in it. Not sure what became of him...

Thanks!
I hear he is in his prime now.

The interesting thing about goals, is most of the time when we achieve one, we set a new one-- the next level up.

I started with just wanting one day to receive an ASCAP payment for my work on TV. That started happening, but it was always with the backing tracks to my vocal songs. So all I wanted then was to here one with vocal, my words on TV (even if at -34db under dialogue, LOL). That was especially important for ME because I don't play on my own songs, even though I wrote the chords/melodies. The words were 100% mine. It took a long time but that finally started happening. What now? Well, now it's keep getting more and more vocal songs on TV but go beyond. Maybe my music on a show like Grey's Anatomy (very, very long odds there, I know). More, I dream about my song in a movie and seeing my name in the credits when they roll. Many of our Taxi friends have done that.

So I think we all keep raising the bar for our goals, which is a good thing. That has nothing to do with Taxi, just human behavior.

Congrats Tom on your accomplishments. Getting your tracks on TV at all is no small feat! You've already boldly gone where many have not. 8-) Keep growing, keep raising your bar. :D

Best,
:D Casey

That's a wonderful, thought-provoking, and unique perspective, Tom. Congratulations on achieving your goals!

This thread makes me, and perhaps others, think about my goals, satisfaction/frustration ratio along the way, and many other things.

For me, the community and camaraderie is the best part of the journey.

Best wishes,
Robert
