Frustrating reviews…

Post by lholton » Wed Mar 11, 2020 10:03 pm

All,

I’ve received some very helpful reviews in the past. I appreciate and try to learn from each of them. However, the review comments from a recent submission to S200212VN (https://www.taxi.com/listings/S200212VN) I found to be frustrating.

All submitted tracks are live performances on a Yamaha C3 PE piano with no quantization applied.

The reviewer’s comments included the following...

I think you could improve this song by….
- “Humanizing the performance a bit more.”
- “Feels a bit too stiff and quantized.”
- “Emulating a live performance better. Feels a bit too quantized.”

My interpretation of the reviewer’s comments is that he/she believes the tracks to be quantized virtual keyboard performances. Maybe I’m missing something here?

If you care to listen to the submitted tracks they are available at the link below.

Two of my three submitted tracks exceeded the requested length. That being the case, I anticipated (and accept) them being returned with a reviewer comment pointing that out.

Hey Luke,

How these could be called 'QUANTIZED', 'STIFF' or 'NOT HUMAN ENOUGH' is beyond me!

You should write to headscreener@taxi.com

I didn't know there was a "headscreener" contact. Thanks. I will follow up.

Just wanted to close the loop for all who might be following this post.

As suggested, I reached out to the headscreener regarding my frustration with these comments. I wasn't sure what type of response I might get. I'm pleased to share the headscreener took my comments seriously, invested time to research, listened to, and provide helpful feedback on my tracks. Good to know the headscreener clearly understood how important feedback comments are to all of us. Thx.

Hi Luke,
I completely agree with Tim and it's good to know about the headscreener.
I too have had many comments that didn't make much sense. Maybe they could have been having a bad day.
Do, however, like the new review format with more helpful criticism.
Best of luck to you,
Ron
