General Question

Post by johndalenow » Tue Apr 06, 2021 1:50 pm

When tracks are selected from libraries I assume lots of editing (cut and splice) goes on to achieve a "sync" to the action in a video, trailer, etc.. That being the case what should those of us who are submitting tracks for a forward be keeping in mind to increase our chances of being selected, given that we cannot know in advance exactly what actions we are writing for? (When I imagine a company that is looking through a library for "just the right sound track" it seems the search may take a long time just from the requirement of needing to match something that will "fit" with the action of the scene or trailer. It seems a very daunting task unless that company hired a composer to write SPECIFICALLY for the action.)

1. Edit Points

2. A Single Emotion

3. New parts that add interest every 4 bars or so

There are more but see what the other folks think..................

And to add to what Cosmic said, quality metadata is extremely helpful to production companies for narrowing down their search.

The title is important: It should immediately suggest the emotion/mood and style of the track. It was either on TAXI TV or another forum thread that someone said that quite frequently music supervisors, when searching through a library, will first search on genre-mood-title.

Can anyone speak to the specific process by which selected tracks are applied to action scenes by the end user? (The client of the library)
