"Get Back Home" - Could it work?

Post by LamarPecorino » Sun Nov 22, 2020 6:51 pm

We are wondering if this could work for the following listing. What do you think?

https://soundcloud.com/user-155785959/g ... 9Yq5ba6Dc5

Lots of Songs about "HOME" are needed for TAXI's next proactive compilation. You can submit songs All Tempos and Styles, such as: Singer/Songwriter, Adult Contemporary, Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Indie Folk, Pop, Country, Anthemic Rock, Indie Pop, Indie Rock, Soul, Gospel, etc.

You’d be smart to avoid genres that don't make sense, topically. For instance, Death Metal songs about Home don't seem like they'd have a high probability for placements ;-)

We’re not giving references for this request, as we think they may be too limiting.

Here are some key concepts, keywords, ideas, and phrases to get your creative gears turning, but please don’t limit yourself to just these! We encourage you to come up with some of your own!

Lyric concepts and keywords:

Home sweet home
Coming/going home
Home is where the heart is
It doesn't feel like home without you
Leaving home
Happy to be home
A house isn't a home
Home is where I belong
Home town
Home with family
Longing to be home
Please submit well-produced Songs with great melodies and well-crafted lyrics about Home! Stripped-down arrangements or more filled-out, fully-produced songs could both work for this pitch, depending on which genres you choose to submit. Whichever approach you decide to take, be sure that your production is competitive with other artists in that genre. Great vocals that work well in context of your genre could really help you on this request.

Our A&R team will have a simple mandate: Is it GREAT? Does it sound ready to go as it is? Would it work well for placements in Film and TV? Would TAXI's music licensing and music library clients be happy to hear this on the playlist we send them?

Note: TAXI has been quite successful in helping our members sign deals via the playlists on previous compilations. Our industry clients like the proactive approach :-) This playlist will be sent to dozens of TAXI's best clients!

As always, you'd be wise to avoid using specific names, places (unless related to "home"), dates, times, brands, and profanity if you’d like to increase the chances of your Songs getting signed and ultimately landing placements. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Because the selected Songs will be going directly to many different Music Licensing Companies, deal terms may vary. However, since some of the Companies are EXCLUSIVE Libraries, we ask that the Songs you pitch for this request are NOT already signed with other Companies or Catalogs. That includes any publishing or publishing administration deals with online distributors like CDBaby, TuneCore, etc. You must own or control your Master and Copyright to submit. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Friday, December 11th, 2020. TAXI # S201211HM

Great Tune Lamar!
Reading the description for the listing, seems like a fit.

My ears re: The Mix
The center snare comes through pretty hot
As I listened to it with intensity, it's adding too much sizzle, almost a Hiss over the track
When the vocal comes in, that clarity range is already eaten up, hides the vocal clarity (Vocal is Wonderful!)
Once all of the instruments came in the volume didn't bother me as much, but it still takes a bite out of the vocal

The Left side snare needs to be pulled way back
calling it a snare as that is what it sounded like to me?
It was louder than anything else around it
Add a Grain of Salt :P
Cheers!

Thanks, Cass. Let me see what I can do about the snare track. The left side sound is actually the acoustic guitar being kind of slapped. I like the vibe, but it is hard to get in balance.

Hey Lamar!

I really enjoyed the vibe of the track there. It kind of reminded me of that vibe from Tracy Chapman back in the '90s. Nice tune!

+1 to what Cass mentioned previously, with regards to the guitar slap. The brushes sound good, but a bit too much top end, so it sounds a bit like noise at times. What you could also consider, is brining in those elements at different times, as right now they all start and play through the whole track. You could try starting with just the acoustic, then 30 seconds in, acoustic slap, then 1min, add in the brushes. Just a minor suggestion that could build it up a bit more as it goes along.

Cheers,
Brad

Nice song.
Still, for this listing, I think it's probably not a match, because they are seeking pandemic related "home", so more about people being at home, staying at home. If I was you, though, I'd always submit this anyway, cause you never know ...

Thanks for listening and for writing, Brad. Those are great suggestions. Let me see what I can do.

I re-read the listing and didn't see anything about the pandemic. Maybe I missed it. I thought that this is for a Taxi compilation project with the theme of "Home".

I got that information from a TAXI Quarantini episode where Michael had mentioned it.

Hey Lamar,

Great song. Well performed. Really enjoyed it. I think it could work totally! The pandemic angle may be an issue but I wouldnt let that stop you! Cheers, Smudgie

Great vibe. Great singer, makes you believe. Didn't read the other's comments. I am away from home and only can listen on my puter. The click track, or whatever that is, is the only weak link IMHO congrats on this
