Get Back Home - Ears please

Post by LamarPecorino » Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:23 pm

Life has been crazier than usual and I forgot about this listing until tonight. Conrad Wilson and I wrote this song a couple of years ago for different listing. Let me know your thoughts about the mix. I'm going to submit it as is in order to make the deadline. Thanks in advance!

Several TRADITIONAL and ACOUSTIC BLUES SONGS with Male or Female Vocals are needed by a Music Licensing Company that specializes in music for content creators as well as TV shows and Film projects!

This Company is searching for quite the range of Songs in All Tempos that could be found on a playlist with the following references:

"Boom Boom" by John Lee Hooker

"The Thrill Is Gone" by B.B. King

"Boot Money" by Tony Joe White

"Statesboro Blues" by Blind Willie McTell

Quoting the Company: "We'd like to hear Traditional Blues & Acoustic Blues (including “old-timey”-sounding Blues) Songs."

Please submit well-produced Blues Songs filled with heart and soul. Your submissions should have soulful rhythms, bluesy guitars, and solid melodies. Organic-based Blues instrumentation with top-notch musicianship will suit your Songs best – avoid submitting anything that sounds synthetic or obviously MIDI-driven. Expressive, well-performed vocals coupled with well-crafted, genre-appropriate lyrics could be the cherry on top for this pitch.

TAXI Tip: Authentic-sounding performances are key to nailing this request; so if you're using any virtual instruments for this pitch, be sure that they don't sound low-quality, stiff, or obviously MIDI-driven. The more your pieces sound like they're being performed by real Blues musicians playing real instruments, the better!

They didn’t specify any particular lyric themes, but you’d be wise to avoid names, dates, times, places, brands, and profanity in your lyrics. Do NOT copy the referenced artists or songs in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Broadcast Quality is needed.

This Company offers both EXCLUSIVE and NON-EXCLUSIVE deals. The specific deal points will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If you’re inclined to sign an Exclusive deal, please don’t submit material that’s already signed with other libraries or publishers for this pitch. You must own or control your Master and Composition to submit to this opportunity. Please submit as many Songs as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Friday, April 30th, 2021. TAXI # S210430BU

Pretty cool track overall!

There seems to be a problem with the bass track though, can't exactly pinpoint what it is, BUT: in the lower registers it seems a bit muddy and distant, while in the high registers it is thin and without body... I know this sounds pretty contradictory and I absolutely have no idea how to solve it, it is just what my ears told me!

Hey Lamar!
Wonderful Song!
Right from the start the Left-side Guit/Dobro? is getting the most attention
Problem to my ears is that it doesn't really set a groove as cool as the vocals
Wonder what the opening would sound like without it???
The vocals are so good!
Personally I'd set that guitar further back in the mix
That would also give the Organ more attention when it comes in
The Organ is sooooo much warmer than that guitar that I would give it more focus

I noticed that you clipped the ending/tail a little too short...
A Part of me wanted your ending to land on the 2nd "...Home"
Feel like that could be a better finish
But... You know... Full of Opinions! :P :D
Cheers,
Cass

Let me see if I can even out the bass track. Or as Archie Bell might say "Tighten up on that bass". Sorry I couldn't resist. 😁

I always appreciate your insights, Cass! I will definitely check out the volume of the left side guitar. I'll try pulling it out completely and see how that sounds. Just to make sure that were talking about the same thing. The left side is a strumming part. The right side is a finger style track which is replaced in the second verse by a Wurly EP.

Let me see about the ending. It doesn't ringing out as long as I wanted. You may be right about the third repeat. I'll see what can be done.

Cool Lamar, I think that guitar volume is much better.
The Tail still feels cut... maybe one or two more seconds of ringout needed?

I wish that I could lengthen the ring out, Cass. But really can't without re-recording the ending. I don't think that I have time enough to get that done. Thanks for always giving me "sound" advice.
