got 2 out of 3 forwarded for DRONE-Y, ATMOSPHERIC TENSION INSTRUMENTAL CUES

Post by jaywilliams » Tue Mar 26, 2019 11:48 am

ok, I admit it, this does feel good.

Backstory: I joined Taxi in October 2018 and went to my first Rally.

In December there was a listing for Dark Drone Cues - I wrote a bunch of them, submitted one, it got Returned.

I listened to some of the tracks that were Forwarded from that listing and decided the FWDs weren't much different from some of the tracks I had written, and I like writing the Drone Cues so I kept going.

Posted a bunch of them to my Soundcloud and 2 days later got contacted by a library owner from Stockholm who signed about a dozen of my drones on a non-exclusive basis.

I keep writing them, finally spotted the Taxi listing this month and decided to Submit.

This listing requires Exclusive tracks so I sent in 3 that I haven't posted for licensing elsewhere - they took 2 of the 3 and the 3rd was a near miss!

Still learning my way around this world of Licensing but I'm happy to have discovered a niche that's a good fit for my work.

Jay :)

DRONE-Y, ATMOSPHERIC TENSION INSTRUMENTAL CUES are needed for a hard-working Music Licensing Company for placements in a popular Reality TV Show on MTV.

They’re quickly searching for Down-to-Mid-Tempo Instrumental Cues in the general stylistic wheelhouse of the references below:

Vice - “Zombie Drug” (Starting From 2:44 – 3:09)

Vice - “The Deadliest Wildfire In California History” (Starting From 3:00 – 4:40)

Please submit tension-inducing Instrumental Cues with very little to no melodic movement. They seek Cues that will add a sense of anticipation to a scene. Instrumentation like (but not limited to) Atmospheric synths, pulsing bass notes, softened drumbeats, and lush pads could all work for this request. Your submission should stick to a singular vibe and sound throughout the entire Cue to keep your piece cohesive from beginning to end. No need to go overboard for this request, simplicity, and mood are everything!

Your submissions should be about 90 Seconds long, give or take. Non-faded endings will work best. Do NOT copy the referenced material in any way, shape, or form. Use it only as a general guide for tempo, tone, and overall vibe. Broadcast quality is needed.

This company offers an EXCLUSIVE deal. You’ll split any upfront sync fees 50/50. They’ll get 100% of the Publisher’s share, and you’ll get 100% of the Writer’s share. You must own or control 100% of your Master and Copyright. Since this is an EXCLUSIVE deal, please be sure the material you submit for this pitch is NOT already signed with any other Libraries or Catalogs. Please submit as many Instrumental Cues as you’d like, online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a Yes/No basis - Short Critiques only. Submissions must be received no later than 11:59 PM (PDT) on Thursday, March 21st, 2019. TAXI #Y190321DR

Congrats - now keep writing! There are thousands and thousands (probably hundreds of thousands) of drones out there. It's definitely a numbers game with these. I agree though, they are a blast to make.

Bombed out with my one submission on that one. :( Congrats, Jay! :) Tom
thanks Tom. they can be kind of tricky to get right, one that got forwarded was one that I felt kind of got away from me as I was creating it, so it didn't sound quite right to me but the screener liked that one and spiked another one that I thought sounded better. keep at it!
