Got paid... for what?
Weird one, passengers.
I got a payment on my BMI for a Disney +Plus streaming travel show. So cool, right?
Then was able to get the show thru a free trial of Disney + Plus thru Verizon.
But... the music is not in the show. It states it is in Episode 3, and I watched that and the other 5 episodes. Never heard my music.
Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Susan
Yea, I've had some weird ones. It happens. A couple of possible reasons you're not hearing it:
(1) It's a cue sheet error and the wrong cue got listed on the cue sheet.
(2) It's there but it's at such low volume you can't detect it.
(3) Occasionally, the cues used in one version of a show are not the same as others. Not sure if this happens with TV vs. streaming versions but I've had it happen with domestic vs. international.

There's also a chance that they used one of your alt mixes, like the underscore version, and you might not have recognised it even if you could hear it. Anyway, congratulations on getting the placement/payment .

One of my first placements was a Dubstep cue in a reality show. Watched the whole thing twice. It's not in there but I'm on the cue sheet.

Some of those are things I hadn't thought of, so thank you everyone.
If it was that they paid me instead of a writer who should've gotten paid, I hope they are petitioning their PRO to get remittance. I now have experience doing that myself, and it is time-consuming.
If it is an ALT mix, I certainly don't hear it, and makes me think my underscore was probably not too thrilling (!)
If it's in another version of the show, I don't know where that is, this is streaming only...but I sure still have much to learn about all of this.

But that's the whole point - not to be the star of the show but to support the screen action and help guide the mood.Susanstunes wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 7:31 amIf it is an ALT mix, I certainly don't hear it, and makes me think my underscore was probably not too thrilling (!)
Probably on the cutting room floor. I'm pretty sure that bits get chopped out of shows/movies so that the whole thing fits a time slot (and in some cases so they can squeeze in more advertising).Susanstunes wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 7:31 amIf it's in another version of the show, I don't know where that is,

Re: Got paid... for what?
QUESTION:
what if the piece was used, you got paid;
then - as happens in many film/TV productions: that scene was deleted, and joined the common fate of stuff that ends up on the Cutting Room floor...?
How many films are released on DVD that include "Deleted Scenes"...?
My guess is, that's what happened.
FWIW: "The Director's Cut" version of Kevin Costner's "Open Range" is a superb commentary & example of how & why a movie director/producer chooses to tell the story;
and adds or deletes parts that interrupt the flow, for audience-interest sake.
HTH, Cheers.

Hey Peter- Sounds logical. I guess my philosophy on this could be " at least they intended to use it" and be ok with that.funsongs wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:22 amQUESTION:

If you do it for long enough there will be plenty of times when they don't pay you for something they did use. Happens more often than you'd think.Susanstunes wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 5:31 pmI guess my philosophy on this could be " at least they intended to use it" and be ok with that.
