Thanks for the feedback. yes I was singing it.Stanton wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 11:03 pmSounds great. I agree Bonnie Raitt all the way. Since blues does not appear to be a big genre now I'd put it into country. I think using a duet would put this over the top with a call and response motif placed unpredictably throughout. Nice job. Did you sing?
Greetings and need assistance with my genre!

Yes I did the singing. I am new to the songwriting and this might sound lame but I am not sure what you mean by call and response motif. Do you mean a back and forth with two singers?Stanton wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 11:03 pmSounds great. I agree Bonnie Raitt all the way. Thanks for the feedback. It was helpful.funsongs wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:33 pmAgreeing with the Bonnie Raitt comparison: might be on a playlist like the song/movie theme "Something To Talk About".
Describing the genre could be a hybrid - like this: (paraphrasing) -
American blues singer, guitarist, songwriter; c. 1970s;
elements of Blues, Rock, Folk and Country.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your feedbackkarlhourigan wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 5:20 pmSounds like blues to me, especially with that slinky slide guitar. I'm slipping and I don't want to slide (cool!)

Sorry for getting back so late. Didn't even notice the bell icon to just now. Call and response is typical in gospel music where the preacher says one line and the congregation replies with another. You often hear it in the back up singers for Stones tunes. Take care. Paul

Re: Greetings and need assistance with my genre!
I'd call this Country Blues or Blues Country... whatever it takes...
Feaker66 is right, the piano is too hot in the last verse, it sounds like a solo that the vocalist sang over top of by mistake. You could give the piano it's solo, or maybe trade every couple measures with the guitar. Then come back to the accompaniment like the beginning for the last verse.
This sounds like a good song with a great hook that was sung in front of family and friends, they want to encourage you, but don't have the knowledge/experience to tell you how to get to the next level. I hear the potential for the vocal to be powerful enough to soar above a crowd of 50,000 in a stadium. How would you sing in that situation? Bring that emotion and energy into the studio and you'll have a hit!
Hope this helps
Michael
