Greetings and need assistance with my genre!

Post by deury » Mon Nov 15, 2021 1:02 pm

Hi there,

Appreciate you reading my note, this is my first Forums post and I could use some help. I wrote a song that I'm having trouble coming to terms with what genre it falls under, the influences behind the song are R&B, Jazz, and blues yet I'm curious if anyone here has a different take on what they're hearing aside from the mentioned three.

Here's the song on my TAXI profile, it's called "Slipping Into You" and it's accessible through my TAXI link.

I really appreciate any assistance and insight you all can share with me, thank you in advance.

Best,
Dawn Eury

The Instrumentation sounds like Bonnie Raitt
The singing I'm not sure... kinda Appalachian

Agreeing with the Bonnie Raitt comparison: might be on a playlist like the song/movie theme "Something To Talk About".

Describing the genre could be a hybrid - like this: (paraphrasing) -
American blues singer, guitarist, songwriter; c. 1970s;
elements of Blues, Rock, Folk and Country.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like blues to me, especially with that slinky slide guitar. I'm slipping and I don't want to slide (cool!)

Hi Fun stuff. Makes me wanna dance and that's good. Like most everything. love to hear your singer deliver a little grit with the vox. Piano good but comes in just a tad too hot IMHO. Just for fun you could speed it up a couple and see what it sounds like. Enjoyed this and thanks

Well, now ya see, I was thinkin' a bit slower might bring out the old-timey folk aspects of the song

Dawn,
I agree with the others that "blues/something" is heading in the right direction for a descriptor.

Sounds great. I agree Bonnie Raitt all the way. Since blues does not appear to be a big genre now I'd put it into country. I think using a duet would put this over the top with a call and response motif placed unpredictably throughout. Nice job. Did you sing?
