Re: Hard Rock/Metal tunage...
Well, I've got to be honest wta, cause anything less is not gonna help you. This mix is a mess. Not only that but the song doesn't have enough meat to it at this point. The triplet git figure in the first section needs to be redone. Its not precise and sounds tentative. The drums parts sound disconnected from each other. The kick pattern is mechanical and doesn't mesh with the other sounds. Bass doesn't really have much impact.Rhythm gits are small and mono sounding in the mix. Lead parts are overbearing and burying everything else.I'd start with just the drums. When those sound good and full by themselves, bring in the bass. Then the rhythm gits. Make sure nothing is stepping on anything and things occupy their own sonic space. The center of the stereo mix should still have some room when the leads are dropped in at this point.Anyway, hope that may help. Just keepin' it real.

Re: Hard Rock/Metal tunage...
Right lads, we've got alot of big sounds wanting room and in dealing with big distorted guitars something will have to give to make room for everthing. Distorted guitar at this point are carved like a Thanksgiving turkey and not sure I can carve anymore. I did have a serious relook at the bass tracks(thank you RLD), they and the kick of course what to take up realestate so I added a touch of flavor to the bass track for distinction and gain em some gain as well. This cut is an instrumental so I'm face with a continual focus to maintain and I feel the guitar is (for the most part) going to be the focus for this tune giving bass and drums the transitions and little focus other than that. I'm having a close listen rightn now to the new cut at a very low (15%) volume level and the mix is sounding balanced but giving headway to the guitar work. Its a nice reference point. I'm A/Bing with White Knuckles from Alter Bridge and feeling pretty good at this point... Right... www.williamthomasanderson.com/w2/nb_song_1_8.mp3 All things considered I'm feeling she's pretty close. I just don't do instrumentals (but determinded to get good at'em) so I'm feeling a bit skiddish,

Re: Hard Rock/Metal tunage...
What are you listening to the tracks on? Near field studio monitors? Headphones? I'm just currious cause on one my near fields the lead is on top put not to loud and also on my high end phones but i'm got another set of phones and they sound a touch loud on those and also on my laptop speakers... I may need to check my eq in my studio, may have pumped it and am not hearing the highs a well as I should.
