Hello and question from a new member

Post by Donnalyn » Wed Jul 24, 2019 4:07 pm

Hi Everyone!

I'm a new member, and have a question about something I've seen in some of the listings. What makes for "good edit points"? I'm learning how to create instrumental cues, and I'm not entirely sure what that means. Does it mean spots where the music stops for a moment, or does it mean points where there are changes in melody, instrumentation, etc.? Or something else entirely?

Thanks, so much. I've been reading through lots of posts in these forums, and it looks like a fabulous place to learn!

Hello and welcome!
Your first assumption is correct, a small gap of one bar usually is sufficient for music editors. It may be complete silence, or the reverb tail just fading away. Those are just a couple of examples, but anything that marks a separation between parts is ok, it gives music editors the ability to grab what they need, without hassle

An edit point is basically a spot where an editor can easily cut the music without making it sound bad.
It might have some sort of little sting or hit, or it might be silence.

Check out the taxi forwards blog and listen to the tracks which were forwarded.
You will find lots of good examples of edit points in those tracks.

That was a very helpful Q&A post, thanks guys!

quick question...does anyone know a good board within the forum to share new cues and see what people might label them as...as far as genre, or what type of submit they could use the cue for? I have a new cue I wrote which I used "hip hop" drum beats for and was thinking it could be submitted under the hip-hop genre but my bf said it sounds like "art noise"....seeing as how I have had 5/5 returns already and the dollars add up with no "return" on the investment, I would like to get some feedback before I submit cues...any suggestions?

I believe "Peer To Peer" is the most fitting section to use for that, at least in my humble opinion :)

Absolutely!

Keep in mind that there is lots of great music but a great piece pitched for the wrong opportunity will still get a return.

So If you are shooting for a certain listing - copy and paste the entire listing text including working links to the reference tracks or a link to the listing on the TAXI site like this: https://www.taxi.com/industry.php#listing-Y190810PN into your Peer to Peer post and a working link to your track on your TAXI profile or Soundcloud or whatever you like to use.

That way your music can be heard in relation to what you are hoping to pitch for.

Good luck!
