I see merit in both approaches. The early Surf records were fairly simple productions. So I like Mix 2 from that viewpoint. Mix 3 perhaps has too many moving parts.
I like some aspects of it. There are other aspects of which I am less enthusiastic. I'll keep tinkering with it. Who knows? I may end up submitting both.
Hey Lamar
I think the sparse approach suits that genre. I think the differences between mix 2 and 3 aren't so great that submitting both would be that beneficial. Why not be bold and really strip back a mix 4 and put that in for a giggle?
The bass on both mixes is still blowing up my headphones and monitors robbing clarity from the mids and highs [maybe I'm just sensitive in that area?].
Best of luck with it.

Thanks for the input, Les. I appreciate it. I hope to wrap this up over the weekend.

First, let me say thank you to all that have listened and shared their thoughts. It has been a fun project for Conrad and me. Here is the latest version. (Dare I say the last version.)

Cool
Comes across a lot better loud on headphones.
I like the second lead playing along.
I guess you'll be glad to flick over onto something else.

Thanks, Les. Thankfully, I have other projects in various stages of development. That approach works best for me.

Love the composition ... melodically right in the ball park I would think. Would agree with the comments re: the dry guitar. Typically this style of tune has very healthy doses of reverb on lead lines (and sometimes tremolo) . To my ears it sounds like a lot of things are competing in the mid-range of the mix so maybe look to cut a little out of the rhythm instruments using eq, but that's just my subjective opinion. Good luck with the track ... the vibe sounds right to me!

Thanks, Thomas. I'll revisit the reverb settings and mids before Friday's deadline.

Well, I couldn't get enough reverb on the guitar tracks using an AUX buss approach. So I pulled up my Amplitude plugin and used the Twin Reverb model. I think that it helps. What do you think?
