Some count only unique placements, omitting any repeat broadcasts of the same thing, and I can see some merit in that. However, I prefer to count every broadcast, as we're supposed to be paid for them all. Besides, that's usually a much bigger number and gives me more a sense of achievement
. Then there's the middle figure - the broadcasts that we actually did get paid for
! I'm not sure there is a official definition, but it would be interesting to learn that there is.

IMO, above 10,000 placements, is most probably all the placements you got. But just like Graham said, having a bigger number gives me more a sense of achievement as well

In that case when you say you count shows - is it each episode you count as a "show" or once you've counted KUWTK as one show, you'd never count it again even if you had placements in subsequent Episodes/ Series ?
I count multiple placements in a single show as a single show. I don't track episodes, just series names. So, let's say I have placements in five different KUWTK shows:
- Episode 1: one placement used three times
- Episode 2: two different placements, each used once
- Episode 3: one placement, used once
I would count this as four placements in three episodes of a single show.
When I summarize my year I just make a list of how many unique shows my music was used in, I don't really get specific when it comes to counting the number of placements. I'll count how many unique tracks were placed, but I don't count the repeats. And I don't count anything on the streaming side of the house unless it's financially significant. There could be hundreds or thousands of "uses" but it doesn't mean much to me if it doesn't pay. For example, I've got a track with 50,000 plays for a single Amazon VOD episode of a show called "Siesta Keys"... this line item paid out $0.89. I only count the placement for that show from the Cable Television section of my BMI statement.

Hi Edmond! How's it going my friend?
I'm glad someone else prefers the counting method that gives them the most joy.
When I get to a few thousand I might change my mind, but until then I like the Tunesat method.
Or, I could simplify it to the young kids counting scheme...

Graham (UK). Still composing a little faster than decomposing, and 100% HI.

I keep meaning to sign up for Tunesat. Up until now I wasn't sure it would be worth the investment of time & energy to keep Tunesat updated with my new and revised tracks. But it
would be really interesting (joy maybe?
) to see the number of total plays. I can't get that from BMI, at least not that I've seen. Plus Tunesat might find other placements that I never knew about.

Well it's free for a 50 track account, and it takes seconds to drag a file across for upload. There's not really much to lose ...but you will be able to hear an audio clip of the detections which can be good fun.

I'm going to have to do it. I didn't know about the audio clip feature, I would like that!

It's a blessing just being able to make music and have the opportunities for placements

Keep in mind that while Tunesat is nice, it would not at all be good for getting a play count. The detections can be very hit and miss, not picking up all of them. Of course, for free, the info is better than nothing. Most likely if Tunesat is picking up some broadcasts with your tracks, there are more than those.
