How long does a library...

Post by SteveBaruah » Fri Jun 29, 2018 10:33 am

How long does a library...keep submitting your cues to tv shows?
I know this is 'inside information' but maybe someone has learnt this along the way.
Do they keep pushing it until the genre/sounds become no longer relevant? Or do they give it so many chances and then drop it?
Thanks.

It’s different for every music library. It is also different for every release in each music library.

Some stuff is heavily promoted and used in a short period of time and then fades away. Some releases get small but steady uses over years. Some music goes nowhere fast.

And then there are the unicorn songs which become used thousands of times for years and years (think TV show themes, end credit music, that background noise from Law & Order, etc)

OK, cool. So I guess it also depends on how good it is / how much it gets placed. The library is going to bet on its strongest horses.

I just got the first placement of a track signed exclusively 10 years ago. So I guess, they pitch it when it fits the needs of the brief.

also depends on how much the editors are scrolling through the wares that they get on hard drive or increasingly online from a music library.

If they find something they like I would imagine they put it in a favorites folder and come back to it.

WOW 10 years!! :o
Very true. I'm sure the music supervisors themselves keep hold of their favourites and use them when they want.
