How Long Has it Been

Post by Patrick » Wed May 26, 2021 8:47 pm

So I met another musician buddy on my schizophrenic website. (We both have schizophrenia)

He laid these barebones verses on me...I added a chorus and a few more verses...and made an acoustic little track out of it.

I just played it into my daughter's phone. The guitar is sloppy in parts, so be kind. The song is titled 'How Long Has it Been'.

Any feedback would be cool! :)

I penned and recorded the tune in less than an hour.

I was kinda 'zoned' when I wrote it...like an out of body experience or something.

It was so bizarre, I've already forgotten the chords I played! lol!

Well it isn't easy to listen past all the production issues... but I think there's a nice song underneath it; not really exceptional, but decent. The chord changes at 0:33 and 1:18 caught my ear; you should turn those into the stuff that takes the song ahead of the pack.

Thanks for the honest feedback, Zaychi.

Yeah...the production is muddy. I just sang and played it into my daughter's phone.

I was just following what i was given. My buddy has a different vision for the track which I think will sound way better than my version.

He wrote the foundation of the song and I added those chord changes you mentioned. I think it's an okay number. It needs some work to make it better, I agree.

This is really nice! It's just a sketch of course, but stylistically I can easily see this being used. Take the time to record a nice clean version with solid guitar performance plus properly mic'd voice and I thin you've got something here.

Thanks Paulie!

I've got another song in the jar I'd like to record with my musician brother when this Covid-19 dies down.

But I'll keep this little track on the back burner and I might revisit it at a later date.

My older musician brother says I'm the reincarnation of Buddy Holly. High praise indeed, which I don't really understand.

I tried to pen this track like Cat Stevens would have...with a dash of John Denver.

But dang my brother can play! I'm going to get him to do the guitar work when I re-record this track. My guitar skills are just too sloppy.

One lady friend told me I sing like Gram Parsons. Another said I sound like Art Garfunkel.

But I just think I sound like me. I've only really had one studio experience in my life, and it went well. Hoping to get into the Studio more in the future.

Thanks for listening1
