Hi,
I've had my first submission returned and I totally agree with the screener - I have no complaint whatsoever. However, how much can I read into what hasn't been said in the critique?
Let me explain a little.
There are 7 checkboxes on the critique for reasons not forwarded. Notice that is plural so I assume they could tick more than one box here. Given that my critique only had one box ticked "stylistically off target", can I assume that everything else was OK? Or, is that just the main reason?
I feel encouraged that my first critique only had one thing wrong with it or am I kidding myself?
I'd appreciate your comments.
Phil.

Re: How much can you read into a critique?
Hi Phil,
If it is stylistically off target.... nothing else matters....
It could be the greatest hit song ever recorded..... but if It's not what they are
looking for....it will not get forwarded.
But usually even the tracks that are not on target have the other checkboxes filled in.
Was it a Dispatch listing? Sometimes these just get forwarded or returned ... with no explanation.

Re: How much can you read into a critique?
Hi Phil
Don't read into it TOO much. It varies from screener to screener and sometimes listing to listing. Some screeners will tend to check the main reason only, others may check more than one. I assume this was a full critique (e.g. an "S" listing). Best thing to do is look for patterns as you submit the same track(s) to more than one listing.

Re: How much can you read into a critique?
Thanks Tim and Casey.
It was a Y listing but the screener gave a sentence with their explanation for which I am very grateful.
I just wanted to squeeze out every ounce of info from the return.
Happy Holidays and all the best for the new year.
