How much to charge?

Post by eokamura » Wed Jul 29, 2009 4:04 pm

Howdy all,I've been offered $600 to compose 60-90 seconds of music for an instructional video. Don't know the product or the company as I would be a sub-contractor through a design firm. Does that sound like a fair price? Thanks guys. eo.

Well, I guess it would depend on the details of the contract. Do you keep the copyright? Do you get your writers share of performance royalties if its used in broadcast situation? Do you get mechanicals if the production of the video exceeds a certain number of physical copies? Etc., etc.....But generally, IMO, I would say that that is a very fair price. People have been paid far less for far more work.I would definitely take it if I were you. You get a nice credit that you could write up quite well on your bio AND you make 600 bucks. Sounds good to me.HTH-Steve
