How to let my music be heard? Sorry Newbie here...

Post by gambitian » Sun Jul 05, 2009 3:13 pm

I was just amazed on the success stories on the forums and it took a lot of time for me to read all of them... Weee...However, as I red over through the details on how to submit listings, I was so sad... Why? Here are the following reasons...1.) It needs to be submitted thru' postal entry.2.) To top it over, I need to place a fee of $5-$15.3.) I am not rich and I wish my music would be heard and promoted I hope someone can help me how to post this for free and would be heard by companies/labels... Here are some samples...http://taxi.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa ... read=14489

Set up an account on CD Baby. For a one time fee, you can place a CD of music for sale and then opt into their digital distribution service. Now, your music is available for purchase per song or CD on iTunes, Rhapsody, Emusic, and 50 more sites just like them.Go find independent music reviewers that listen to the genres of music you produce. Invite them to your CD Baby page or your Taxi page to listen and review your music. People can leave reviews of your music right there on your CD Baby page.Use those reviews to promote with everywhere you can for free. I have virtually no promotional budget and I've promoted our music onto more than 10,000 websites over the last decade. It's not easy... but it's doable...

You can submit on-line through your TAXI hosting account (assuming you are a member).#2 - the submission fee is $5 per track.#3 - I don't think any of us are rich, so I certainly appreciate how you feel. Many people would like to know how to get companies and labels to listen to their music, unfortunately there's no easy answer. Even assuming you can find their contact info, most companies/labels are not going to listen to unsolicitated submissions from unknown songwriters. The competition is tough and reaching those who will listen to your music is difficult. You don't say what your goal(s) are, so it's hard to give you advice, but unfortunately in most cases lyrics alone are not pitchable. You need to find yourself collaborators who write music in commercial genres and work with them to produce demos or masters to pitch. In terms of working with TAXI, who is screening for companies and labels... you need to understand that their focus is on finding exactly the kind of music described in each individual listing. The listing parties come to TAXI wanting something very specific, and we have to submit according to those guidelines if we want to be forwarded & considered for a deal. Hope that helps.PS - Von gave some good advice on promoting your music yourself.

Sorry to be the tough coach here - Michael would be so proud If you intend to be a professional in the Music business - you must be willing to invest in your business. Whether that's in the form of production of your product, development of your craft or development of your business knowledge and skills, or marketing yourself and your music, TANSTAAFL, my friend. So, make a business plan, make a budget and get to it. In this day of social networking, internet, pro tools, there is unprecedented opportunity for the independent artist/songwriter to create a prosperous living. Niche marketing can make a lot less money be a lot more effective. Whether that's marketing on TAXI, social networking or traditional marketing avenues (such as live performance, radio, magazines, etc.).Hope that helps (and doesn't hurt too much

First, you need a way to record your music in digital form. This is easy and cheap, if you have a fairly up to date computer. You can make the music inside the box, (computer) using virtual instruments, or add an audio interface if you need to get acoustic or vocal music into the computer. A MIDI controller can also be very helpful. Second you need web access, which you already have, but things go much smoother if you have broadband access. Uploading digital music files can be painfully slow over a dial-up connection. Thirdly, you'll need to find a host on the internet for your digital music files, there are lots of music hosts, many of which are free; the most common is Myspace.com. They allow up to six songs, along with pictures, video and space for a few words about you and your music.Hope this helps, and feel free to ask questions about anything you don't understand; I can only imagine how tough it would be for me to learn all this in tagalog. Good luck!

There is a SSP board (Shameless Self-Promotion). Check with the moderators if you have any questions.http://taxi.proboards.com/index.cgi?boa ... y&thread=1
