Hybrid Orchestral Cue Virtual Libraries?

Post by jlizerbram » Thu Apr 04, 2019 3:10 pm

What virtual sample libraries for Hybrid Orchestral Cues (like in the form of Movie trailers) would be recommended, especially to keep sounds fresh and "updated"? I've gotten my share of "your samples sound outdated" type of feedback and not sure if I go about using extra resources ($$$) to update the libraries, or try to tweak what I have. ..Here's what I have collected over the past several years:

- EastWest (Symphonic Gold, SD2/3,Goliath,RA,Gypsy,DarkSide,Choirs)
- NI Ultimate 11 (includes Damage, Massive, Evolve, Absynth, Action Strings and quite a few more)
- Spectrasonics Omnisphere and StylusRMX

Thanks!

Usually a mixture of libraries is necessary with trailer comp. If you want to compete, yeah, got to invest. Really have to demo the libraries, each one has its strengths and weaknesses. This is why folks like Nick (Taxi-member) often blends libraries to get the effect needed.

My 2 cents:

It’s perfectly possible to get non-outdated sound specially from your combination of Eastwest / Spectrasonic products.
It’s a different thing how realistic results are desired.

Applying different articulations are a key thing.
The automation/phrasing/passages in NI11 shines ; saves you time.

It's probably wise to say that (generally) concentrating in to the quality of the composition fixes most of the problems with any current good sounding library.
Minimalism is the king.

I am looking for great orchestral sounds for somewhere under $250. I am not a big tech head so something easy to use where I do not need to do a lot of equalizing ect. Would like some harps in the samples if possible. If there are upgrades in the future I think that would be a plus. Also I have a 2 TB hard drive on my Mac so will I need a separate hard drive? Love some recommendations.
