I Can't Hear Myself Drink

I Can’t Hear Myself Drink ©2017 Robert George BMI

Well, my lover vanished on the wind like smoke
Now, I’m sittin’ in this chair,
With a lonely, vacant stare
Tryin’ to fill the void with rum n coke

All her foggy mem’ries float by silently
Though the love and trust she stole,
Made an island of my soul
Maybe friends would set this island free

But I’ve no intention of remaining sober
And when all my crazy friends come over

I can’t hear myself think
Or feel my sorrows sink
The clink of ice cubes in my glass
Is like a whisper from my past
All I was
And all I’ll ever be
Is gone because
She abandoned me
So I won’t put up with noise
I fear I’ll forget her voice
If I can’t hear myself drink

I keep hopin’ time will turn a page
But my soul is feelin’ trapped,
And I’m tryin’ to adapt
And maybe music would unlock the cage

Sad songs tell me that my tears are valid
And unless I play a tender ballad

I can’t hear myself think
Or feel my sorrows sink
The clink of ice cubes in my glass
Is like a whisper from my past
All I was
And all I’ll ever be
Is gone because
She abandoned me
So I won’t put up with noise
I fear I’ll forget her voice
If I can’t hear myself drink

O there’s a night bird singin’ soft n blue
As if he has lost a wayward lover, too
He’s callin’ to her on my moonlit fence
Whistlin’ sad n low because he seems to sense

[/i]I can’t hear myself think
Or feel my sorrows sink
The clink of ice cubes in my glass
Is like a whisper from my past
All I was
And all I’ll ever be
Is gone because
She abandoned me
So I won’t put up with noise
I fear I’ll forget her voice
If I can’t hear myself drink
