I'm a newbie - -

Post by SKM » Thu Apr 26, 2018 9:04 am

Hey all! I just joined Taxi a week or two ago and I am overwhelmed! I have started working on my profile, uploading music and pics - I even submitted my first song a few days ago - But I want to be more involved with the forums and Taxi TV. Any suggestions on how to split time between a day job and all of the networking online?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard! TAXI TV can be watched online if you can't make the live show. Pop in here whenever you can and give feedback or responses. If you come regularly we'll get to know your name and your music. Start saving for the Road Rally now! Have questions, ask away :D

Hello.
When you are able and have info & music to exhibit, might be a good idea to include links to those places in your "signature",
so that it shows up at the bottom of each post you make.
Hope that helps - welcome to the Community Forums.

Welcome Sara!

Like so many people here, I have a full time day job. But I treat my music as a business since I want to generate revenue from it, so I compose every day and night, with rare exception. Not knowing your personal situation (married, single, kids, hours at work, etc), I think a good thing to start with is establishing your goals and then creating a schedule.

My wife knows that I am a musician and that I am fully committed to providing libraries with as much music as possible, so she tolerates me being in the studio pretty much all night after dinner with the family. But I also make sure to carve out time with her, along with the teens (as long as they will tolerate my existence). Then there's that pesky thing called sleep... if only we didn't need it. ;)

Check in with the forums regularly, and comb through the FAQ section to find answer to lots of the questions probably still in your head. Post your music here when you want feedback, and be sure to include a copy of the listing text so we can see what you are aiming for.

I think the networking aspect of Taxi is the strongest benefit, so you are smart to focus on that. Check the forums more often than Facebook or Instagram and you will be just fine. :)

Good luck!

Thanks so much everyone!

So the Road Rally - - I am a member - - How do I get/reserve my tix? I was under the impression I did not have to pay for a ticket?

Also where do I find my "signature" to edit?

And Paulie, thank you for the great advice. I am working a couple of part-time gigs and my partner definitely knows my priorities stay with music. I will have to really carve out some steady times for music as it pertains to a job. Thank you so much for the advice.

Thanks for the advice and tips. I will be coming to the forums as much as possible. Hopefully every day.

Oh and yes I am trying to watch Taxi TV - trying to do so many things at once makes a one hour video seem like 5 hours. Getting though it.

And - One more question: Is there away to get alerts when someone replies on the forum here?

Hi Sara.
Answer to 2nd question 1st:
1) upper right side tool bar - same one that says Forums - click on the 2nd icon - the little guy - to open the menu
2) select User Control Panel
3) from that, select Profile
4) you should see, on the left side, the menu that includes Edit signature
5) enter the info, links, and notes you want EVERYONE to see and have access to.
6) be sure to hit Submit when you're done, so that the info gets posted as you have entered it.

You can edit it anytime you want to make changes.

Answer to first question: You will get an email notice when it's time to REGISTER for the Road Rally - no cost to paid up members -
and you will receive the instructions and info at that time.

Welcome to Taxi. I am new too - joined in December (after the rally). Submitting music (and growing from the critiques), watch Taxi TV, posting in the forums, are all things that veteran users recommend. It sounds like you are already doing those things. :) Keep it up.

The other thing that I hear from successful veterans is keep working and set the horizon on - at least - five years.

Welcome.
