I tracked a new song-would love draft feedback

Post by annathomas » Fri Aug 21, 2009 8:17 am

I tracked a new song and will be recording it next month. Very rough draft guitar and vocals only. Would love any production ideas or general critique. Thanks as always. Its called "I'm Here" and the lyrics and song can be viewed and heard here:http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.p ... aID=448241

No specific suggestions come to mind, other than maybe add a bridge? I presume you'll do this with standup bass, brushes, the guitar pretty much as is and an occasional plink or plonk from a piano... Seemed like the recording cut off at the end, just so you know.

I LOVE this song... This style is quite popular in England right now, I've got a friend who's really into this stuff. Production has a live feel or demo feel if you will. I'd say for for it all the way and get this into broadcast quality, this will license. I also dig the timbre of the vocalist and the feel, that mic and preamp did a great job capturing the emotion, imo. Get this in the can!

Is that you singing......? ULTRA Fantastic vox.I think the vox and gtr are so good I would keep it ultra bare and just add a very good upright bass player and make that busy when you want a lift here and there. You could add drums, piano shaker etc but I would not ..................this should stay haunting with a big upright bass heart beat coming in at some point, it will make it more original imho.

Maybe try a few versions?

I really like this one. Great feel in it If the guitar was miked and not direct, it would cut it for me.What mic and pre-amp do you use? I love the sound of it.In the beginning I could hear a very full grand piano with a very natural sound, lower in volume than the guitar, kind of just like a pad underneath the whole thing, no licks, just sweet chords that follow the melody on the chord changes. Not sure I agree on the upright bass idea, allthough it could be cool. This song is like breeze in my ears, grand piano could add breath, while the upright bass could bring it closer and make it more intimate. What ever direction you choose eventually, I want to hear it when you're finished with it.

I think you have one of the coolest voices of anyone who posts here on the forums, I like your music a lot too. I really think this is cool like this . . . add upright bass, drums (played with brushes) and I think that's all you need. What a great voice! I like "Trace Of Light" too. For those who haven't heard that one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUMyfh1l ... re=related

love the beatlesque ending on "little red".Have you heard "the kick inside" album by kate bush.I reckon you would love that. She wrote some of those songs when she was 13/14.One of my favourite albums.
