Idle Idol Chatter
Is anyone else still watching American Idol?
I'm kind of over it, but I find myself still watching! What is interesting to me is how the competition has evolved from a vocal competition to an artist competition. The bummer for many years (imo) has been how much of a say the public has in choosing the winner. Talent seems to be only a small piece of the pie when it comes to the votes.
Any thoughts on this year's contestants, judges, or the show in general?

Re: Idle Idol Chatter
I've been watching it.
It's not the same without Simon but Steven's good and JL of course.
One of my favourites went out last week,Karen I think her names was,she had a fantastic quality to her voice which only shined through once or twice but it was their.
Similar thing with Thie!? but she's just about hanging on.
Scotty will be a Country star whatever happens.
With a lot of the rest it's the usual vocal pyrotechnics which after a few seconds I find annoying!
It was good to see Bob Babbage.
And speaking of bassplayer's the house-band are really good and in particular the bassplayer.

I haven't watched any this year. Wish I could, just haven't been able too.
I did like Simon. Not sure it will be the same without him.
Agreed on the public .. but that's who buys the records.

I haven't watched Idol in a couple of years mainly because I'm a guitar teacher and usually working till 9 ET at night. What really bothers me more is missing TaXI TV on Monday nights! I liked Simon as he told it like it is!

Re: Idle Idol Chatter
I was wondering if anyone was going to start an AI thread!
I am watching. I thought I wouldn't like it with Simon gone, but actually I really like Jennifer Lopez and Stephen Tyler. Jennifer seems to have the most knowledge, which kind of surprised me.
I haven't seen this last week's episode yet (still on the DVR) but I heard it was a shocker.
My favorites are Pia Toscano and Stefano. I think it is going to come down to those two and Pia will win. She has an unreal voice!

I like this years AI (last years stunk). As an aside, James Durbin's dad - Willie Durbin - played bass in some of my bands. He built his own fretless bass and would play country gigs with us (a waste of his talents), and would run out at the end of a gig and jump on a garbage truck and load garbage till 8:00 AM.
There is a massive amount of talent this year. (but I like James)

Re: Idle Idol Chatter
I watched last night after missing a few weeks. I'm rooting for Pia- she has an amazing singing voice...
Am I the only one who thinks some of the performances last night were rather mediocre but the judges were very positive about them? I thought Casey was pitchy on "Your Song", and the guy (forgot his name) that did "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" was great at jumping around the stage like a rock star but his singing wasn't all that good.
I find Steven Tyler to be semi-worthless as a judge. If he goes first with the commentary, nothing of value ever said. JMHO...

Pia is great... I can't believe she got voted off!
No worries... I expect she'll be signed to a major record deal in no time flat.
