Instrumental pop

Hi all. For a listing for instrumental pop/rock, say something with a reference track by Jonas Brothers, are they looking for any melody? Like do you usually play melody with a synth, or just leave it with rhythm and harmony?

Hi

I would definitely add some melodic content. But keep it simple and at the same time not cheesy. Use well-balanced lead sounds and avoid shrill and piercing sounds. Also, remember that libraries always offer all instrumental tracks with alt mixes like without leads (bed mix). So to have a lead melody that can be taken away is a good thing for sure.

good luck

Thanks so much! What would you choose? I could do an acoustic guitar? Or synth guitar plucks? Or flute? Soft piano…or are these all suitable ideas?

Anything that sounds cool or contemporary. Synth plucks are popular in Pop right now...I don't hear many flutes though.

Kinda difficult to tell without hearing the actual track, but listen to the charts and you'll hear the sounds from today....
