Instrumentals with vocal elements

With instrumentals can you add some vocal elements? Like subtle little riffs, runs and adlibs to accompany the melody or is that risky?

I think it depends on the genre and how they are produced.

If you were making Sports Rock for example it's common to have " whoah's , hey's " and other such chants

Vocal chops are common in some Pop/EDM styles too.

Yes!! I hear that a lot in adverts actually, the woah’s and hey’s, It’s a modern hip hop brief though.
I guess the easy answer is do the references have them lol, it it sounds really nice.

Usually listings will say if vocal elements are ok or not. Listen to the references provided and read the listing carefully.
