Introduction: Bob Mitchell, So. Glens Falls, NY

Post by djbobm » Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:50 am

Greetings from northern New York State! My name is Bob Mitchell and it is a pleasure to associate with others who share my passion for composing music. I discovered this forum a couple of months ago and am thrilled to find so many talented musicians and composers willing to share their ideas, successes, disappointments and frustrations, not to mention just being cool people. What a great place to learn! Hopefully, as I learn more, I’ll be able to contribute.I taught public school music for 30 years and have a couple thousand gigs of various formats under my belt. When I was teaching, I wrote a lot of material for my performing groups which lead to me getting a number of choral pieces published by major choral publishers. In December, I purchased an iMac 2.8 and Logic 8 and have been spending most of my time writing and recording, while wading though tutorials, experimenting with styles, forms and instrumentation, not to mention, trying to learn how to mix better. Anyway, I have my reservations set for the Road Rally. I’ll get a “dot” so hopefully, I can meet many of you.Best of luck to everyone. I hope you all get the musical successes that you are shooting for.Bob

Hi BobI know the Glens Falls area well. My wife is from the region, and my in-laws are still there. I'm wondering if you were in the band that played in my wedding 24 years ago..... Holiday Inn Lake George..... Anyway, best of luck to you. Maybe we'll meet up at the blues bar and jam this fall....ArkJack

Hi Bob,Welcome to TAXI and the forum. We might be able to answer some technical questions and offer feedback on your music. Judging from your bio and experience, you will probably be able to provide lots of great feedback here as well. Glad to have you on board!Mazz

Hi BobI'm a long time Adirondack resident (Saranac Lake area) who immigrated to Quebec a while back. I used to play in an old timey/Bluegrass band that gigged around Glens Falls a bit. Welcome to the Forum and good luck.Mewman

Thanks to everyone for such a warm welcome. ArkJack – It is a small world! I performed at many weddings at the Lake George Holiday Inn. I lead the “Bob Mitchell Band” for about 15 years before turning to the “dark side” and becoming a party host/mobile entertainer. I still play piano for cocktail hours and ceremonies. I haven’t booked anything after my October 25th wedding so I can concentrate on composing. Best regards to you and your bride of 24 years!Lydia – I just visited your website…very nice. Your orchestrations are exceptional. I have a website that is online. I used FrontPage to create it because I wanted a place for the Wav and AIFF files of my 14 forwards to be stored. The Musical Excerpts page has excerpts with fade in’s and fade out’s to give a general idea of what the pieces are about. If an interested company wanted to hear the complete versions, I would email them the “secret” link. If they were really interested, I would send them the link so they could download the Wav files. I might just put the full versions on the Musical Excerpts page because I don’t think there is that much of a security issue. I would like people to be able to listen but not download. Maybe in this day and age, I shouldn’t even be concerned with this. Do you have any thoughts on this? Your website was obviously professionally done and looks great. I like how you have an embedded player…looks really professional. My music relies on QuickTime Player with the listener having to look at a blank screen…boring!I will probably have my music site professionally done like I did for my entertainment website. Some things are better left for the professionals! I think it will take another full year to have a strong grip on all the aspects necessary.www.bobmitchellmusic.com“Secret Link” to full versions (Shh…don’t tell anybody!)http://www.bobmitchellmusic.com/musical ... ons192.htm My entertainment website: www.djbobmitchell.com After trying to listen to music by everyone who responded, I discovered that I have a Taxi Homepage. Cool!Taxi Home Page: http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?userid=me Vikki - Thanks for the links. I will study them all so I am prepared for the Rally. Your website looks great. Your music is wonderful and your youtube videos were pretty cool. That is the “Truth”!!!Mazz – Thanks for the invitation on technical issues. I heard your “King of the Hill” forward…great piece. The quality of your production was much better than mine – bigger, slicker, nicer, more professional sounding. The questions will be coming…thanks.Anne – You have great sounding mixes…once again, better than mine. The instruments sound so real! Great tunes! Billy – I couldn’t find any of your music to listen to but thank you for your greeting. I’m not sure how to search for your profile page but I’m working on it. As the cold, northern New York winter approaches, I will envy you living in the Bahamas.Mewman – I went to the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, so I passed through Saranac Lake many times…great area. Are you going to the Rally?Derek – Your music is really interesting and really well done. It is great to hear how the world of music speaks to us all differently. I’ll look for you at the Rally.Have a nice day!
