Is this song too vulgar?

Post by whipsnchains » Fri Aug 20, 2010 11:40 am

We started this song as a joke but when we showed it to a few people they all seemed to like it. It has a good groove to it but some might consider it too vulgar. Let me know what your opinions are. :twisted: muwhahahahahaaaa!!!! Having trouble uploading the song so to listen to it please go to our myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/whipsnchains7 The song is titled Amateur Pornography. Thanks!

Yes, it is vulgar. But it is much too silly to take seriously. There is definitely a comedic edge to this song. I guess this song could make it into an adult film. Have you tried to pitch this track to any adult movies? I am not sure that you could make any money at first, but maybe you could find a big adult production house to use your music.
Your treachery is appreciated.

I actually like the song; some of the lyrics are NSFW, and "dong" is a rather dated euphemism for "penis", these days, but none of that's any barrier to a song's popularity, heh. My reservations have more to do with the production, which obscures some rather clever lyrics with too much reverb and some frequency imbalances; the vocal performance could also be rhythmically tighter. With a little more attention to production detail, I'm pretty sure there'd be a market for this.

Yo Whips (and chains);
I listened. My initial reaction was "hey, this is pretty interesting -- actually cool -- fun lyrics". But what kind of pervert would I reveal myself to be, if I actually gave positive comments on this effort? It's about porn, after all, and who watches that, except . . . you know . . .
And then I flashed back. A few months ago, I posted my tune "I Want My Virginity Back!", and the first response I got was from someone way more religious than I, with no sense of humour. I actually (to my regret) tried to mollify this individual, before I realized where he was coming from. Back to the present. Won't make it on country radio. But it was a fun tune, well done. I liked it, somewhere there is a place for it. Thanks for posting it.

Vulgar.. c'ome on.. you're kidding, right? Limits are far wider than you think on this.. the band Rammstein is very big in Europe (no pun intended). Check out their video "Pussy" http://strela.tv/video/xRUyXbM8ai

That's 'vulgar'!

Yeah I guess the Rammstein song is a good example of how much vulgarity is excepted in today's music. Although it is not our goal, it is what it is. We appreciate the constructive criticism. It's always great to have a fresh pair of ears to help with the production side of things!

Before one can really even answer your question... What is your goal for the song?

If you are an artist or band, marketing yourself as one & you want to play gigs, sell your CDs, etc. you have a lot of latitude. If people buy your tunes, come to your shows, etc then basically anything goes.

Now if you said you want to explore film/TV music, libaries, etc. I'd say it would be very tough. Libraries usually want music that can appeal to a wide range of opportunities without having an issue at the get-go.

We are more interested in doing gigs, and selling CDs than working with film and tv.
