Is this too far away from the style requested?
Hi everyone,
For this new listing I am considering submitting my song but think it may be not quite on target style-wise. It has a Joni vibe but I'm afraid a bit too closing in on upbeat to make the cut for this. Perhaps I could edit out the last part that is like a delirious party in the desert..... or try to put together a new song closer to "A Case Of you" by May 20 (tough) . Here is the listing:
ORIGINAL, RETRO-Style SINGER/SONGWRITER SONGS with Female Vocals are needed for a (up-to) $550, Non-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor Indie Feature Film placement. This Supervisor is searching for Down-to-Mid-Tempo Songs (Recently recorded, Retro-sounding or Old School, Vintage Recordings can both work) that generally fit in the stylistic wheelhouse of the reference we got from the Music Supervisor: “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6voJjexENok NOTE: They’re not looking for a clone or sound-alike of the above song! Please send well-crafted acoustic-driven Songs with a captivating melody, lyric, vocal, and overall performance. Stripped-down, acoustic guitar/vocal performances, as well as versions with a light ensemble can both work for this pitch! Universal lyrics that avoid references to specific names, dates, times, places, brands and profanity could give you some edge, but we don’t think they’re an absolute necessity, as this song will likely be used as Background Source Music.

Sounds right-on, and very well-done, to these Old-Guy ears.
Pretty high bar when jumping into the untouchable "Joni-Zone" - this generation's premier singer/songwriter - she's in a category all her own.
Very impressive 'impression', even - though, it's all your own song, right?!
The listing seems to be after something stripped down - so, I'm not sure if the rest of the production isn't "too big" for this listing.
I will defer to other commenters. Still - if it only costs you 5 bucks for the submit - maybe go for it anyway.

Hi Susan! I have already heard this nice song of yours on SC as you know and it was great to listen to it again!
For what they are asking..I think the song is right on for the listing..
"Stripped-down, acoustic guitar/vocal performances+ .....you start off with this
,"as well as versions with a light ensemble".... and end with this..
And it is very Joni!
I would go for it!

Thanks Peter and Linda,
I submitted this for another similar listing many months ago and got a return for not quite being in the stylistic approach of the references- the screener also said that my song didn't quite have the emotional pull in the melody as the references. I'm thinking I may not submit because of that experience. I may try to produce something else tho!
Thanks!

I know what you mean by the tempo, and taxi is very specific in the words it puts in it's listings. But I don't think this is uptempo at all - I'd but it in the mid tempo range, so I'd submit it.

This is really good, and really sounds like Joni. Congratulations, because that's not so easy to pull off. I do think it is more light rather then emotional though, where "case of you" has an emotional vibe to it. I would submit it anyway, because it is spot on with the Joni thing. But if you have one that is more stripped down acoustic, and a little sadder or more world-weary, that might be more on target.

it's worth submitting as it is, if you ask me, unless it happens to be a winter scene in Alaska, but even then, it says it is background source music, so it could still work.
