Keyboard key repair question

Post by Paulie » Wed Nov 21, 2018 3:55 pm

Keyboard repair question for those that enjoy repairing electronics. :)

I've got a key on my Alesis Q88 controller that only triggers and sustains if I press it extremely lightly, as in <5 MIDI velocity. Anything heaver than that and the note cuts off super short, with no sustain.

Is this a bad sensor, or something that can be fixed if I can find my way to the sensor? If it wasn't the B below middle C I could ignore it...

Hey Paulie,

I've gone thru about 5 Alesis midi keyboards in the last 3 or 4 years....

The low C on my newest Alesis VI-61 just went out......
I just throw them out and buy a new one.

I temporarily get around using the octave up or down key....

Tim

I've never cleaned an instrument keyboard, only computer keyboards. but i found a video https://youtu.be/yMh5j7yG4vA?t=1004

if you need to replace the key contact strip or a key, http://www.keyboardkountry.com/keyboard ... asc&page=3

for a cleaner, https://www.wd40specialist.com/products ... t-cleaner/

most likely it just needs cleaned, or the rubber key contact strip has a wrinkle or shifted a little.
