You might check Native Instruments' forum and maybe there's some other discussion groups that have that info. I don't think anyone here has jumped in the water yet.

I upgraded to Kontact 3 when it came out and it was very unstable in Sonar 6.I've upgraded Sonar to 7 and there have been a couple of fixes in Kontact 3.It is working well. I like some of the new instruments in the library. Not alot of ethnic stuff but it's good. Some of the brass in the Band section of the library is from Chris Hein. The VSL library is the same as version 2 but with some new scripting. If you are using an earlier version I think it's worth the upgrade price just for the library. If you don't have a VST sample playback Kontact is still the major contender IMO. ( I also have the Emulator 2 sampler and find it very difficult to use)Chuck

I think it really makes a difference what your host is. That's where other users' experiences may help, that's why I suggested checking other groups.Kontakt 2 has had the bugs worked out and has been very stable for me on both Mac (OSX 10.4.11) and PC (XP whatever). In time, Kontakt 3 will become stable on all platforms and in all hosts but it may not be there right now. I'm not going to rock the boat for a little while longer, personally. It bums me out that a lot of companies have followed the Microsoft model of forcing their paying customers to be beta testers on "released" versions of the software. I used to be somewhat OK with that but I can't afford to be anymore, I can't have any downtime so I tend to be more conservative with upgrades now than I was even a couple of years ago. Sorry I can't be more specific.Mazz

oh yeah , i agree,, im totaly conservative,,, i will waste money on newere versions but if they are buggy i won't hesitate to go back to a older version.... can u be more specific about what version of kontakt 2 on winxp is least buggy... 2.2.3 for example... thanks man. i just finished building my new computers...ive now got them all together and it looks like im going to abandon gigastudio for kontakt..as long as i can find a really stable version to use with esqlso gold...dave

I'm using whatever the latest update from NI is. Sorry, I don't know the specific version. It's totally stable until I try to put too many instruments in it, but that's just me being a pig!! On the PC I built a huge orchestral template by loading in instruments (and saving after each instrument) until it crashed. Then I knew I'd hit the limit!BTW: I run it in Stand Alone mode on my PC. My PC is just a glorified sampler, I do all my work on my Mac. I run it in Digital Performer and it works just fine. It is much better than the Kontakt Player in all regards.Since you're a PC guy, can I put more than 2Gs of RAM in my PC and have XP recognize it?HTH,Mazz

ive heard so many different versions... one guy on northern uses like 4 gigs and uses three stand alone versions of k2..he installs three different k2 installs... and then opens them seperately... 1 school has always said that winxp can only do 2 gigs..at 32 bit windows.. anyway i do have a seperate computer just for kontakt,,, just click on your kontakt upper right corner and tell me what version has been stable for you in your situation.... thanks dude.

I use 2.2.4 and it's extremely stable. I use it as a plug-in only though. Never use the standalone.HTH,matto
