I actually had the third guitar playing a lower harmony to the riff tuned down to D so that I could hit that lower D note. It never occurred to me to tune all the strings down a step. Oddly enough, when I used to play in a bar band, we used to tune our strings down 1/2 step, just to make it easier on our voices...especially at the end of a 5 show weekend. Of course that used to confuse the guy who liked to pop up on stage with a harmonica. And if you can, tune it down to D. This was also heard on one of the examples and gives the final product additional depth and punch.
I may try doubling the guitars L/R later if I still have anything left in the tank. I already caught myself, must've hit some keys that were a shortcut and almost ended up deleting a guitar track...thankfully I hadn't saved it yet.
Btw, when you double the guitars, how much of a time delay do you use between the 2 tracks?
Gonna give this thing a listen in the car now, and see how it sounds next to some of the references.
