Thanks Harry, two more important tips - if not for this time, then maybe for the next round: Always double the guitars left/right. And if you can, tune it down to D. This was also heard on one of the examples and gives the final product additional depth and punch.
I actually had the third guitar playing a lower harmony to the riff tuned down to D so that I could hit that lower D note. It never occurred to me to tune all the strings down a step. Oddly enough, when I used to play in a bar band, we used to tune our strings down 1/2 step, just to make it easier on our voices...especially at the end of a 5 show weekend. Of course that used to confuse the guy who liked to pop up on stage with a harmonica. LOL

I may try doubling the guitars L/R later if I still have anything left in the tank. I already caught myself, must've hit some keys that were a shortcut and almost ended up deleting a guitar track...thankfully I hadn't saved it yet.
Btw, when you double the guitars, how much of a time delay do you use between the 2 tracks?

Gonna give this thing a listen in the car now, and see how it sounds next to some of the references.

Harry

No technical delay, but a real double track (played twice) and sometimes an octave below with a virtual guitar towards the end. The fullness has to arise somehow. Some colleagues also mix in a percussive piano sound (very quiet, of course).

Commiserations, again it's the result I expected.

There can be a big learning curve with this stuff depending what your starting point is.

But you won't get better by not doing them so best to learn what you can and move on to the next track.

I wasn't shocked by it, but was hopeful...just makes me want to get back in my studio and go at it some more...unfortunately, this has been a bad week for that. Hopefully next week...
