Let's Socialize

Post by irwin » Mon Aug 29, 2022 10:05 pm

Hello eveyone, This is a new song of mine.

Those who have trained ears to hear any imperfections of my sounded mix, feedback on how to make it more "industry standard" that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Irwin, I’m volunteering to be the bearer of bad news! Your music is not using the harmonic rules of western music. Having said that it doesn’t mean it’s per se bad, but if you want to play in the licensing game it’s imperative to stay within the harmonic structure of globaly accepted music theories. Your chords within themselves are harmonically clashing let alone the friction with the topline! I think you should study some basic music theories to make a step further. Good luck 🍀

Hi Irwin, I’m volunteering to be the bearer of bad news!
I'll 2nd that - Irwin it's nothing I haven't said before when you've posted previous songs.

Melodia mentions you should try learning music theory and whilst it wouldn't hurt, there are lots of folks including myself making licensable music that haven't got a music theory background either so I don't think that's the answer for you.

I genuinely suspect you may suffer from some sort of disorder like amusia. I can think of no other explanation as to why you would continually post these songs with clashing chords and melodies.

-----------------------------------------
Amusia - Wikipedia : Symptoms of receptive amusia, sometimes referred to as "musical deafness" or "tone deafness", include the inability to recognize familiar melodies, the loss of ability to read musical notation, and the inability to detect wrong or out-of tune notes.
------------------------------------------

I sincerely hope that you are not wasting good money on a Taxi membership as it would be unfair for them to take your money I feel. Can I suggest you take an online test so you can at least rule it out and go from there.

That's excellent news Irwin. So there is no medical reason why you are producing tracks where everything is clashing and not working in harmony.

How are you putting these songs together ? There is obviously a flaw in your process we need to get to the bottom of. Are you playing the keys ? Drawing them in ? What is the method here.

Hi Melodea, (I'll keep working on bettering my Chords from being harmonically clashes )

Your advice is very much appreciated and respected. I say Thank you for taking a little time out to do this.

This is a redone of my song:
Irwin it's still all out of key. Even the first piano chords an the brass stabs are off with each other and with the bass.

I'll ask again what methodology you are using to put these songs together as it's clearly not working ?

Sounds to me like you need to understand to hear chords and harmony - Maybe you could use something like EZkeys or Band In a Box so the foundation of your songs will be more solid.

As always, Mark is giving really good advice here.

You know, Have you heard of the theory books "Musical Principles for the Skeptical Guitarist"?

What a life changer these theory books have been for me, https://www.skepticalguitarist.com/

Maybe I'll make a thread about them and see if people have heard of them, or have applied that approach in general for music theory, even though it is for guitarists, what pure gold in general for approaching theory and setting you up to being more successful with taxi!

Irwin, this hurts my ears. I'm not saying that to be mean or be overly-critical, but you did want honest feedback, so there it is. There's really no improvement from Version 1 to Version 2.... notes are haphazardly placed, with clashing chords and notes all over the piece, and a vocal topline that doesn't fit over any of it.

Like Mark, I'd be very interested to see how you approach making songs. Maybe you could record a step-by-step video that shows us your creation process, from having a blank workspace, to workable music bed. I'd like to see how you go about doing this, as it almost doesn't seem possible to make something so atonal without purposely trying to.

~~Matt
