Lullaby Listing

Post by MrKaplan » Fri Feb 24, 2017 8:34 pm

Hi,

I was hoping that you wouldn't mind listening to my submission for the below listing. It's my first time trying to write a lullaby. I appreciate any feedback.

ORIGINAL LULLABY INSTRUMENTALS are needed by the CEO of a very active and successful Music Library for TV, Film, Commercials, and Toy Licensing. Even Lullabies don’t always age gracefully, so this company needs to freshen up their stash of baby-friendly Instrumentals. Please send them some Down-to-Mid Tempo Lullaby Instrumentals that would make you yawn like this broad range of examples: “Go To Sleep Lullaby Instrumental” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETUg_0FbMQg “Baby Lullabies for Bedtime” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVDgVe1yGOg “Rock-a-Bye-Baby” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfztbon4KnQ Give them full-length, original, soothing Lullaby Instrumentals with simple melodies and light, delicate arrangements. It’s not rocket science, so don’t be afraid to create a simple, yet awesomely catchy melody and do NOT try to win Composer of the Year with this pitch. We know that repetition can be boring, but isn’t that the point?! Your instrumentation can include (but doesn’t need to be limited to) acoustic piano, electric piano, nylon or steel string acoustic guitars, bells, flutes, violins, vibraphone, cellos, and even a children’s toy piano or xylophone. You can use any instruments that are mellow enough to put even the most restless child to sleep! Avoid any harsh sounds or anything that would startle a baby. All submissions should be about 3 – 5 minutes long (give or take). Faded or Non-Faded endings are both okay for this pitch. Do NOT copy or rip off the references in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a general guide for tempo, tone, texture and overall vibe. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine). TAXI Tip: Dated, old recordings might be the reason this library needs to update its catalog of Lullabies. Good, clean, modern recordings that don’t sound dated should be appreciated

Hi Jason,

I listened multiple times to your melody. I like it because it reminds me of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star although the similarities do not last long. I was listening through headphones and at first, with my volume a bit high, I thought the instrumentation could have been a bit more mellow but at lower volume it sounds like most other lullabies do so I guess that's ok. At least I hope most mums don't put headphones on babies these days :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to listen to the song. I was worried about the volume level as well. I have never mastered anything lullaby wise. I did some a/b on some iTunes songs and tried to match it sound wise. Again, I appreciate the kind words!

Hi Jason,

Any luck with your lullaby?

Mine was returned with "Solid effort, but a little too static for this pitch. " I'm trying to understand what static might mean. It's probably the instrumentation but if it was that I didn't reckon babies would like a full orchestra, haha!

"too static"? repetition is how lullabies work!

I had to resist the urge to 'build up' the end of mine, because lullabies are aren't supposed to get the baby excited. so I kept it energetically 'flat' which went against my instincts.

I submitted two for this, one was forwarded, one was returned.
Mike
