Lyic Sheets Needed?
Hi All,
I am wrapping up my CD burning as I am sure many of you are as well! I think I saw or heard somewhere that lyric sheets are appreciated but I can't remember specifically where? The panels? Mentor sessions? Trying to figure which lyrics to being as bringing all would be a notebook and my suitcase is getting very full!
Looking forward to meeting you!
Best,
Linda C

Re: Lyic Sheets Needed?
You need a lyric sheet for any song you are dropping in the box for a listening panel. Bring some elastic bands to attach it to your CD
If you plan to play a song or songs for your one on one mentor, lyric sheets are advised.

Thank you Vikki..I am enjoying your blog! It's very special and thank you for sharing! Hopefully I will meet you at the rally! I will be bringing (as I mentioned on chat of TAXI TV) 5 cds of the Ella Fitzgerald/Count Basie/Ray Brown/Jeff Hamilton live recording my Dad did in 1974 to give to those who have dinner with me!

Actually, no... not for dropping CDs for the listening panels. Never used there and not recommended. (Sorry to disagree with you, Vikki! )hummingbird wrote:You need a lyric sheet for any song you are dropping in the box for a listening panel. Bring some elastic bands to attach it to your CD

With the one on one mentors, it can be helpful if you want to discuss the lyrics of a particular song (if the session will be to focus on lyrics). Keep in mind that 15 minutes goes by in a flash. Unless you want to direct the session in that direction, more commonly the mentor samples some of your songs by listening to a bit of each. But it's YOUR 15 minutes so you can try to focus it as you wish.
Where they are most used would be in a class in which the teacher offers to take CDs from the class and review some songs. In those classes, you fold up a lyric sheet and tie it to the CD with a rubber band.
Best,
Casey

Actually, yes - sorry to disagree with you, Casey - at least from some listening panels I attended at last year's rally.Casey H wrote:Actually, no... not for dropping CDs for the listening panels. When CDs were selected from the bin, often lyrics printed out in easy-to-read & large fonts (some old eyes on those panels)...
v. some CDs that had the lyrics printed on the produced packaging/sleeves... the panelists DID clearly state that they appreciated having the lyrics
to read along. In fact - I recall a 3-member panel who all expressed interest in reading along - but they had to share & pass around the one-pager.
From that experience, I've made full one-page lyric sheets on 8-1/ 2x 11 available, just in case.
My suggestion - have available as much easy-to-read information as possible; be prepared. You can't give them what you do not have ready.
Your mileage may vary.

Re: Lyic Sheets Needed?
Well I stand corrected and apologize. I will say that my experience over many rallies (I think I'm going on #12 in a row) is very few attach a lyric sheet for panels. I never have (had songs played) and when I've looked at the hundreds of CDs in the drop boxes, I don't recall seeing any (unless it was on the CD packaging for an artist CD and I didn't notice). Definitely not a requirement but certainly can do no harm.funsongs wrote:Actually, yes - sorry to disagree with you, Casey - at least from some listening panels I attended at last year's rally.Casey H wrote:Actually, no... not for dropping CDs for the listening panels. OR - at least you could have a few copies with you, at-the-ready, in case the panel mentions they'd like to read them.
In that way - you would also have the 'shameless opportunity' to re-introduce yourself to the panel. Hee-hee-hee.
And you wouldn't even have to dress funny to get noticed!

Re: Lyic Sheets Needed?
Just reiterating that I do recommend lyric sheets, folded and attached with a rubber band to CD for classes where the teacher reviews songs from class participants. This works well especially in classes by songwriting and lyric gurus.
